Willmar Street Fair promises major county event

The Willmar Street Fair runs September 13 to 16 with a beefed up premium list and expanded booths. The committee outlines booth placements on Fourth street and Pacific avenue, a free acts platform, a band stand, a tented poultry display, and parades including a Thursday civic parade and Saturday automobile procession. Strong local turnout urged with decorative farm rigs and wide community support.

Lightning Strikes Local House During Storm

A week ago on a Sunday night lightning struck the house of J. A. Hedin on Third Street. The bolt ran down the chimney causing little damage. occupants heard the crash and later learned the strike had hit their own home during the electric storm.

Prairie Schooner Headed East Through Aberdeen

Fifteen prairie schooners rolled through Aberdeen headed east after leaving South Dakota for good. Boldly painted on the head wagons were the words fifteen miles to water fifty miles to wood as the group began a long journey away from the state.

Personal and Otherwise Miss Dilla Peterson returns home

A stream of social notes lists guests and visitors in Willmar and nearby towns. Dilla Peterson returns from three weeks with relatives in Renvilly county while Edith Tait goes home to Diamond Lake after a visit at Dan Haley's. Several others travel between St Paul, Minneapolis, Benson, Fargo, and Kandiyohi for short visits, family gatherings, and summer stays at cottages along Crescent Beach and Engle Lake.

Oiling City Streets In Thief River Falls

The Thief River Falls News reports the city began oiling business streets on Friday to create dustless, water shedding roads for a year. Streets closed during soaking and crossings sanded to avoid oil tracking. If successful, more oiling may follow next year.

50 Year Anniversary Souvenir Work By Belgrade Pastor

Rev T O Tolo of Belgrade spent three days in our city to promote a pictorial and historical souvenir for the Crow River church in connection with its fiftieth anniversary on September 3. The pamphlet will include about 160 half tone images from old photographs and a historical sketch of the first Norwegian Lutheran church in the county. Also notes half fare travel policy details for preachers with most state roads offering discounts. Rev Strand and family from Minneapolis visited Gilbert cottage at Green Lake and spoke with Mr and Mrs John Johnson.

Sheriff Starbuck and Clerk Johnson with Assistant Fusness escorted a Montevideo arrestee who pled guilty to grand larceny for stealing a beer case. Judge Quale sentenced 30 days and a $50 fine. Gunderson was injured knee by a cow last Friday and will take time to recover. Deputy Bostrom spent two and a half days auditing Treasurer and Auditor books, praising local bookkeeping.

Betsy Lavinia Geer of Colfax died Monday July 31 from heart disease. Born May 17 1838 in Pennsylvania she was 73. Death of Charles Berglund in Pennock at 51

Wilhnar reports the death of Charles Berglund of Pennock on Monday at 7:30 PM from cancer. He aged 51 years 4 months 14 days and is survived by his wife Clara Landin of Watertown South Dakota and four children Emily, Victor, Arthur, and the two brothers Gust Berglund of Pennock and A P Berglund of New London plus sister Mrs G Peterson of Stockholm Wright County. Funeral services are set for Thursday with 1:30 PM services at the residence and 3:00 PM at Mamrelund church officiated by Rev G Peterson. Interment in the adjoining church yard.

Torrey Falls From Train Near Hopkins Junction

Torrey, a well known conductor on the Willmar division, was seriously injured last Saturday night when he fell from a freight train near Hopkins Junction. He sustained a fractured skull and was taken to a St Paul hospital in precarious condition. His wife is recovering from childbirth, and a son was born about a week ago.
