Death Calls Old Settler From Willmar to Kandiyohi

John D. Ward longtime resident of Burbank and Mo nongalia county official dies at his daughter’s home in Willmar. He moved to Willmar last spring with his son and daughters after 36 years in Burbank where he served as county commissioner and community leader. A Christian known for the Golden Rule in life and work. The article also notes the upcoming marriage of Ida Pauling Dale to Olof Leonard Rigg at their home on Fifth Street and Monongalia Avenue with Rev. O Helmdahl officiating and guests present. The couple plans a wedding trip to Eau Claire Wisconsin after the ceremony.

Elderly Mr Ward Dies After Long Minnesota Life

Mr Ward born near Carlton Ohio in 1822 died at Willmar after a trip to his childhood homes in Ohio Indiana Michigan. Survived by eight of ten children and his wife Isabel Downs who died in 1901. Funeral held at Presbyterian church in Burbank with Rev Buall officiating, burial beside his wife. Community gathered to pay respects as students and teachers from St Cloud Synod parochial school planned a picnic and exams for teaching certificates.

Gospel Temperance Lecture by Rev A L Morse

Rev A L Morse known as the Golden Rule Orator spoke at First Presbyterian Church on Monday night on The Battle to Save, illustrating temperance. Based in Chicago, he is on an eleventh annual tour after returning from England. Named Special Deputy Right Worthy Grand Templar and Lecturer of the World by the ICGT International Supreme Lodge, he also serves as national gospel temperance lecturer alongside Moody. He spent Sunday and Monday in the city then departed for Granite Falls.

Willmar Steam Laundry to Change Hands

Olof A. Ferring will become the next proprietor of the Willmar Steam Laundry if negotiations succeed. He returns from the twin cities after arranging purchases and a lease for a new building on Third street and Pacific avenue, formerly Jacobson & Peterson. The business will move to the new site and resume a successful operation under his leadership.

Seminary Faculty Return With Staffing Changes

Seminary teachers are secured and Rev. Solum returns Monday from Decorah Iowa. He will stay to prepare for the coming year and issue catalogues. The entire staff has been secured with Mr Hegetrom and Miss Ellen Syse replacing 8 O Tresvold and Miss Nellie Evans.

Lake Andrew crops hit by chinch bugs and Hessian fly

Anderson Land Co Formed From Merger Deal

A. A. Anderson, local manager of Southern Minnesota Valley Land Co., assumes the two firms under the Anderson Land Co. via E. Stuart of Southern Minnesota Valley Land Co. Last week W. Perry of Little Falls bought the Leslis Kerby farm, about a mile and a half south of Priam, for 38 dollars per acre through the Anderson agency.

New School Board Faces Deadlock Over Treasurer Selection

The Willmar school board, with all members present, failed to elect a treasurer as Otterness and Hong each received three votes. Johnson’s vote was contested, leaving a 3–3 tie. Next regular meeting in September will decide, amid concerns over bank deposits and governance.

Death of Erick Findeboe in North Dakota Work Accident

Erick Findeboe, a carpenter once employed in this city, died suddenly from heart failure while working on the section near Ripon North Dakota. He left a wife and six children in Hardanger Norway whom he had not seen for a year after coming to the country to provide a new home. He visited friends here about three weeks ago and appeared robust, but died at 63 years of age.

The Kandiyab county abstract of personal property assessment was sent to State Auditor Iverson last Thursday after approval by the county board of equalization. Richard Olson Dies of Consumption at 23

Death visits our community as Richard Olson son of Martin Olson of the west side passes away Sunday at 1:30 am after a year of illness. Funeral held yesterday at 2 pm Rev Gynild preached at the Lutheran Free church cemetery. Born March 20 1880 he leaves father mother two sisters and three brothers and was beloved by many for his kind disposition.

Swedes Unveil Statue of John Erickson in Battery Park

A statue honoring Swedish American inventor John Erickson was unveiled at Battery Park New York last Saturday. A Swedish society parade preceded the ceremony with U S troops. Rev Mauritz Stolpe opened with prayer, a 150 voice choir sang, Rachel Hartley daughter of the sculptor pulled the drapery, Mayor Low accepted, Colonel William C Church gave the day’s oration, and the ceremony closed with songs.

Death Claims Another Victim In First Ward

George Haines died at his home in the First ward at 12 10 after a battle with influenza that developed into pneumonia. He was 22, a 1899 High school graduate who studied at the University of Minnesota. Funeral from his home tomorrow at 2, Rev Buell in charge, burial at Fairview. He leaves parents, four sisters, and two brothers.

Excursion to Head of Lakes by Great Northern

A popular trip to Duluth and Superior runs this week from Sioux City on the Sioux Falls line. The special leaves Sioux City August 6 arriving in Willmar at 2 40 a m. The round trip fare is 82 50 with Willmar as the last boarding point. It reaches Duluth at 9 30 p m and returns leaving Duluth at 4 p m Sunday. Stops are planned at all points between Sioux City and Willmar. Two or three sections may be run.
