Nordland Norwegian Lutheran Church Destroyed by Storm
A heavy thunderstorm last Thursday night destroyed the Nordland church in Irving. The wooden structure, built in the 1870s, with 30 by 50 feet dimensions and a tower, burned completely costing about four thousand dollars. The congregation, formed in 1868, has no rebuilding plans yet, though services will be held at Adolph Pederson’s residence. The church, a historic landmark for Norwegian Lutherans in Irving and Union Grove, has undergone multiple improvements and became part of the Lutheran Free church after severing ties with the United Church in 1898. Rev. M. M. Midthun of New London serves as current pastor.
