Goats Pass Through Willmar on 1800 Mile Trail Ride

Two University students Fred Oster and David Burling drive a goat team in a 1800 mile Glacier Trail trek from St Louis to Glacier National Park. They arrived in Minneapolis and will present three films and talks at the courthouse lawn Friday at eight o clock detailing the trip Minnesota landscapes and park scenes.

Hunters Warned Over Due Reports Remain Unsubmitted

State Game and Fish Commissioner Carlos Avery warns Kandiyah County 600 licensed small game hunters who have not turned in hints reports risk license loss next season. In Minnesota some 50 000 small game and 2 000 big game hunters may be refused licenses if 1921 report cards are not submitted immediately.

Musical Program by W. H. and F. M. 5 at Tripolis Church

The Tripolis church hosts a musical program Friday evening August 4 at 8 o clock. Highlights include scripture reading and prayer by Rev. Tillman, Ruth Harrison reading, Ruth Erickson singing, Hazel Elmaquiat piano solo, Miss Anderson solo, Stella Croonquist reading, Emma Peterson piano solo, and choir songs. New Willmar Extension For Boulevard Bus Line

The Boulevard Transportation Co extends six year Minneapolis Delano route to Willmar. Daily services depart Willmar at 8:00 a.m from Merchants Hotel and Minneapolis at 5:10 p.m. from 29 N 7th Street opposite Shupert theatre. Service began July 21. Rates may drop soon and after August 10 additional Willmar Twin Cities runs likely. The latest bus models are used.

Need of Farm Help Draws Calls to Farm Bureau Office

Local men are preferred but not always available so calls are sent to Minneapolis or St Paul for helper dispatch. Wages run about 2.50 daily or 45 dollars a month with board and lodging. Neil Pearson returned Friday from a visit in Minneapolis.

Hoglund Hardware moves into new building progress reported

Hoglund Hardware nears completion as stock is moved into the new quarters. Building was finished in two months, basement excavation began three months ago, builder John Skolheim. Hoglunds bought the lot from G. A. Erickson last winter, extending from Benson to Litchfield avenue. Present site to be rented, several firms seek to secure it. M. A. Peterson plans an extended Sweden Denmark trip via Swed ish American line July 27 and will visit the East and Middle West, Willmar, and return to Ferndale Wash. by November 1.

Sons of Norway Outing Draws Large Midwest Attendance

The Sons of Norway circuit picnic at the Fair Grounds drew an estimated 1200 to 1500 attendees from Benson Madison Glenwood Starbuck Brooten Sunburg and Willmar. Speakers included Senator P A Gandrud Grand Secretary L Stavnheim and Judge T O Gilbert with the Viking chorus of Willmar providing music. Members voted to host the 1928 outing in Madison.

Miss Tallman Reaches State Golf Final in Minneapolis

Esther Tallman of this city advanced to the state women’s golf final at Minneapolis last week, finishing among sixteen contestants. She lost the final 3 up with one to play to Mrs. Dow George of Glenwood in a dramatic rally, after trailing late.

Mrs J R Loney entertained the Jolly Twelve Thursday at Green Lake for the July meeting. All twelve members joined the gathering with guest Mrs Oscar Revelling from Spokane Washington. A motor ride on the lake provided one of the amusements enjoyed during the afternoon and evening.

Queen Crowned Last Evening at Kandiyohi Pageant

Miss Alice Magnuson won by a narrow margin with 35,116 votes while Miss Muriel Otterness and Miss Evangeline Nygaard followed closely. the pageant drew about three thousand spectators as Atty R W Stanford gave the crowning speech. House party at Green Lake cabin with chaperone

Helper injured after slip at State Farm on polished floor

Mrs. Dickson, a helper at the State Farm, slipped on a polished floor Sunday and broke her right arm near the shoulder. Injuries were dressed by Dr. A. F. Branton.

Auto tip over near Svea injures none

John Ruddy drove a Cleveland sedan which tipped over one half mile north of Svea Monday evening of last week. All four occupants escaped unhurt. Mrs Mathilda Larson returned to Calmar Iowa last Thursday after attending the funeral of her brother the late J G Freeberg. Mrs W K Strawn also returned on a Thursday from a visit in Minneapolis.

Luce Line Extension Nears Cosmos Line Touch

The Luce Line extension west of Hutchinson nears touching Cosmos town line by tonight with work trains to use the new grade. Crews labored along the route this week while V E Sederstrom solicits farmers west of Cosmos for bonuses. Contracts to Thorpe may follow after final signatures, then possible relocation of Cosmos to be nearer the tracks.

Travelers Hazel Elmquist and Irene Engdahl Return

Miss Hazel Elmquist of Willmar and Miss Irene Engdahl of Ortonville, public school instructors, completed a three week tour through the Eastern States. They rode the Great Lakes to Buffalo then Boston, New York, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Washington, and Chicago. Historic sights included Old North Church, Paul Revere route, Longfellow’s home, the White House, Arlington Cemetery, Wall Street, and Statue of Liberty. Train No 3 arrived Willmar at 6 45 a m.

Willmar Municipal Band Announces Free Open Air Concerts

The Willmar Municipal Band plans four free open air concerts this summer starting tomorrow at the courthouse lawn. Director Granoski notes August 24 will feature the best show, with a Traverse county fair appearance on August 29. The band, 20 players strong, will also perform four days at Browns Valley’s Traverse County Fair, the sole fair for the year. John Ley of St. Cloud is compiling a new Willmar directory amid many recent changes. residents should prepare current information for calls.

Rye and barley quality praised at Farm era Cooperative Elevator

John Sandin reports the Farm era Cooperative Elevator handling rye barley and wheat of good quality. Rye weights up to 57 pounds per bushel and barley up to 48 pounds per bushel. J B Murray raised the barley. County crops are good though yields may be smaller than hoped. Hjalmar Peterson plans a booking trip through northern Minnesota Wisconsin and northern Michigan by car next week and will begin a new tour next winter with a new cast entirely.

Three Strike Breakers Fined For Gambling

Felix Zapp F J Dimming and S A Scalise employed at the Great Northern Roundhouse were arrested by Chief Westgard and Sheriff Ronde for gambling in a poker game on the Grimlund property. They pled guilty and were fined 10 dollars plus 4 30 costs each totaling 44 70. The trio bound themselves for appearance in Municipal Court. The post office clerks granted a half holiday Saturdays from June 15 to Sept 16.

Farm Home Burns With Total Loss

Fire on the Spicer farm 0.5 miles west of Spicer destroyed the four room home of John Olson. Kerosene stove heating water reportedly started the blaze while Mrs. Olson was in the barn. No one was home. belongings valued about 500 dollars. The Spicer Land Company plans to rebuild soon as Olson family stays with relatives. Other notes mention local workers heading to Clarkfield for schoolhouse work. Judith Thydin fractured her shoulder blade in an Eagle Lake accident while in a boat.

Pageant Viewed by Thousands at Kandiyohi County Fair

The Kandiyohi County Historical Pageant drawn by local talent drew about 3000 spectators over two nights at the Fair Grounds. Tickets and gate receipts reached roughly 1500 and 1200 dollars. The open-air production featured a large stage, Fox Hunt style scenes, pioneer tributes, and a finale crowning Miss Alice Magnuson as Queen, with the Thurston Management supplying equipment and lighting. A reception for Rev. Lindholm and others was also noted with local clergy in attendance.

Parcel Shower For Miss Myrtle Croodquist Bride

A Friday afternoon parcel shower was hosted at the home of Mrs Fardis Croonquist in Kandiyohi in honor of Miss Myrtle Croodquist, a bride of the month. Red and white hearts and kewpie figures decorated the three rooms as guests arrived.
