Bethel Church Members Host Warm Carlson Hall Reception

Members of Bethel church gathered at Carlson Hall last Thursday due to space limits in the church basement. The event featured a quartet, addresses by Rev. Pearson and Atty. Johnson, a solo by Esther Hegstrom, and a social hour with refreshments. New members received on Easter, and a confirmation class, were celebrated with a collective surprise for Pastor Rev. W. E. Pearson, including a purse of 218 dollars from the congregation.

Arbor and Bird Day Observances Proclaimed by Governor Hammond

Gov W S Hammond designates Friday April 23 as Arbor and Bird Day urging tree planting along homes roads and school grounds and teaching children about trees birds and forest care. Also notes district YWCA and local YPS meetings in Morris and Johnson school events with speakers and programs from April 23 to 28 and 25.

Little Oak Tractor Excels In Milner Field Trial

W Lonn returned from Milner North Carolina where he observed a Willmarmade Little Oak tractor perform well in a field trial. Andrew Anderson purchased the machine and saw it plow ten inches deep with strong power and smooth passage through wet spots. Lonn also met Fritz Carlson Scoomey, Milner shoe-shop owner and local town team player.

The Parnells Make Good at Presbyterian Church

The Parnells drew a good crowd at the Presbyterian church last Thursday. They are booked for 26 weeks of lyceum work next winter, with 52 return dates, and 10 weeks of Chau tauqua with the Travere-Wick circuit. The tour will cover Iowa and nearby states, signaling a strong home approval. Commercial Hotel landlord Nickelson installs hot and cold running water in all rooms, a notable guest convenience. F C Hillman plans an electric mill plant at Green Lake to supply Spicer and surrounding inns with current, marking a major local improvement.

Cosmos Club Banquet at Carlson Hall Attended by Thirty Three

The Cosmos Club held its first banquet at Carlson Hall with about thirty three members. Toastmaster Thomas Phalen introduced speakers Herbert Hongatler L C Harrison and Harvey McIntyre. Members shared humorous remarks sang duets and a solo, dinner lasted until eleven, and Mrs Jas Sanderson provided the banquet service.

Local Elks Initiate Class at Carlson Fall Banquet

The Elks No 952 initiated a six member class last Thursday afternoon at Carlson Fall between 4 and 6. A banquet followed at 6 20 in the club rooms with attendees from Morgan Minnesota and Benson. The Svea Farmers Club plans a meeting Friday at School District 66 with Skoglund orchestra and plans to discuss seed corn and institute annuals distribution. Marcus Johnson of St Paul arrived to review business interests.

Pretty Mallevig Baklund wedding at Eagle Lake home

A pretty home wedding occurred last Tuesday evening April 13 at the home of Mr and Mrs C A Baklund when their daughter Florence May married Chri Kallevig son of Mr and Mrs B Kallevig. The parlor was decorated with wedding bells and pink and white streamers. The bridal party entered to Lohengrin. The bride wore white crepe with messaline and lace, a veil and carried pink and white roses. Attendants wore white embroidered voile with pink and white carnations. The groom’s attendants were Leslie and Carroll Kallevig. A three course dinner followed for about sixty guests. The dining room had pink and white decor. The choir provided music and piano solos were played. Guests included many local families and friends. The bride has been organist at Eagle Lake church. groom works with Willmar Tractor and Manufacturing Co. They plan to live at 1209 Campbell Ave after May 1.

Deaths in Svea community and Nelson funeral in Svea

John A. Lindblad of Svea in Fahlun township died April 9 after a long illness. Born February 28, 1841 in Sweden he settled in America in 1883 and served as a Svea Lutheran deacon. Survived by wife Charlotta, five of seven children and three grandchildren. Funeral Sunday April 12 at Svea church with Rev. Ryden officiating. Mrs. A C Nelson’s funeral at Svea drew a large crowd with extensive floral tributes and many relatives present. Mrs. Annettle Swenson Nelson Sven born January 18, 1872.

Death ends long community service of Svea woman

Mrs Nelson Swenson of Svea died April 14 after two weeks of illness from heart trouble. She taught school in early years and after marriage ran a home where she welcomed many distinguished guests. Survived by husband Nelson, four children Zilphia Bert and Juniette at home, and four siblings. mother in Vancouver. The Svea community mourns her as a mother of the town.

Willmar City Council appointments and salaries fixed

In an April 1915 session the Willmar City Council ordered paid positions confirmed including Chief of Police C. Gilbertson and Night Patrolman Westgard. Appointments to City Attorney, Water and Light Commission, Street Commissioner and Board of Health were finalized along with park board and other municipal posts. A salary resolution fixed the city engineer's wage at one dollar per hour plus allowances.
