Local residents readjust after visits across Minnesota

Mrs J E Lawler returns home from DeGraff while Mrs C M Fowler of Pipestone visits Willmar. Numerous Willmar area residents travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota cities, or North Dakota for visits and new homes. Names include Lindgren, Sherman, Putney, Pederson, Halvorson, Nelson, Swenson, and Olson among others as they plan summers, moves, or extended stays with relatives and friends.

Students present current events and art readings at Willmar High

George Swenson led current events on Tuesday morning while Esther Anderson read a composition on An Interesting Crowd in a Street Car and Ida Bomstad offered a Shylock sketch. Hazel Lien visited school Tuesday afternoon and report cards were issued Thursday. Baseball practice continued nightly at the park with a Benton game expected next Saturday at three. Willmar supporters urged cheers for the team as Mr Cranston gave a talk Thursday morning. Seniors face a Virwil exam Friday and Esther Anderson was absent early week due to illness after many High School students attended a teachers convention Saturday afternoon.

Flames Consume Spicer Livery Barn Killing Eight Horses

Fire at Downs Bros livery barn in Spicer discovered at 8:30 AM destroyed a 50 by 100 foot structure. Eight horses died, seven rescued. One buggy and harnesses lost along with 350 bushels oats and hay. Loss about 4000 dollars with 600 insurance. Fire spread potential to nearby grain elevator but was contained. Cause undetermined. last horse fed by Claude Doty before blaze. Third fire in Spicer in six months.

Willmar County Census Effort Aims For Quick Count

Uncle Sam launches thirteenth census with 23 enumerators in Willmar County. The drive began last Friday and targets June first for initial results. The government has allotted $14 million and 75,000 enumerators nationwide. A Grangford and P C Peterson lead the local survey as residents prepare.

Sad end of a young man found in railroad car

The body of a stranger was found hanging from a crossbar in a refrigerator car in the railroad yards last Sunday at noon. He carried a pocketbook with $1.60 and Chicago addresses. Coroner Branton suspects suicide after learning the man, about 28, from Montana, planned a Chicago job but was told it had gone to another. He was described as German with dark hair, gray eyes, about 3 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 135 pounds. Authorities reported no foul play. Confirmation services were held at St. Luke's Church with Bishop Edsall delivering an address on True Christianity. Parish affairs, including elections and vestry re-elections, followed the service.

Willmar Eagles raid suspect pleads guilty on two counts

William C. Kemp, arrested during a Tuesday raid on Willmar Eagles lodge rooms, pleaded guilty in municipal court to maintaining an unlicensed drinking place and to selling intoxicating liquor without a license. Fines totaled $114 plus costs. Liquor seized will be poured into the courthouse sewer as witnesses and onlookers gather.

Rev Spencer Installed As Willmar Pastor In Presbytery Service

The St Cloud Presbytery opened sessions with a service installing Rev D B Spencer as pastor of Willmar's Presbyterian church. Other speakers included Rev Burnley, Rev Findley, and Rev Raulston. Spencer, a Minnesota native educated at Oberlin and Andover, previously led River Falls Congregational church and River Falls, Wisconsin.
