Willmar to receive new mail carriers May first

City announces Carl Ellingson Lee Somerville and Sigurd Merkness named mail carriers for free city delivery to start May 1 with Arvid Carlson as substitute. Appointments received from Washington Post Office. districts not yet assigned. Readiness includes mail boxes street signs and house numbers. uniforms to be adopted by Uncle Sam. Also notes Sons of Norway Wedraheimen Lodge No 5 organized with 35 members and officers elected.

Brother shoots brother? Tragic home accident in Mamre

In Mamre at Nils Olson’s home a 22 caliber rifle discharged while Albert Olson aged nine sat up in bed. George Olson aged about twelve held the gun. Albert died the next morning from a cheek wound to the brain. Burial occurred at Mamrelund cemetery. The community shares the parents’ grief.

Drowning victim found after lake search in Willmar area

The body of Arphie Amy, adopted son of C B Geer of Burbank, was recovered from Stauffer's lake after extensive searches. He vanished while on a hunting trip, his overturned boat and cap found. Funeral services were held at the Burbank Presbyterian church with interment in Burbank Cemetery. The report also notes a concert program at Bethel Lutheran, local deaths, and community notices from Willmar and surrounding areas.

Tragic Yard Accident Claims Newton Meyers Life

Newton W Meyers a switchman in Willmar Minnesota died after a yard accident at eleven o clock. His left foot was caught in a guard rail and a hawked car struck him, crushing his left side. He died within an hour at Frost hospital. E O Elliot and crew aided in rescue but were unable to save him. Meyers 73, formerly of Negnah Wisconsin, leaves a widowed mother in Sap Wash. The article also notes local political discussion by W J Nolan and business moves by W C Hawkins and O A Jacobson.

Willmar Sash and Door Factory organized in Willmar

Willmar residents form the Willmar Sash and Door Factory Company with Andrew Bjorsell as president and A E Rice as vice president. Directors include P C Peterson C L Collin and W J Pinney. Capitalization is 25000 and the stock is locally held. The old Willmar Novelty Works property is taken over to become a two story stone or brick facility 25 by 60 feet to house an engine room storage and drying rooms. The firm aims to begin work soon and expects a busy season with many workers, targeting operations by May.

Willmar Will Invest 11000 In Plant Improvements

Improvements to the Willmar Telephone Exchange will cost over 11000 this season. The wiring will be rebuilt with a copper metallic system, 23000 feet of cables laid underground, and poles slimmed from ten cross arms to two along Pacific avenue. The exchange capacity will exceed 700 lines, and work will provide summer employment.
