Carpenters organize at Borgeson Hall in Willmar

A Willmar carpenters union formed at Borgeson Hall with C J Freeberg presiding. Officers include Victor Fridlund as VP and Frank Holmberg as recording secretary. The group aims to improve wages, hours, and solidarity, noting carpenters in town earn about 2.50 a day and planning a nine hour day.

Parish Meeting Postponed By St Luke's Parish

The annual parish meeting of St Luke's parish was called for last Monday evening but adjourned until Saturday at eight due to the treasurer's absence. All eligible members are urged to attend. Appleton Press notes the Willmar Mercantile Company was restrained from selling Knutgon stock by the Village Council over itinerant merchant license concerns. G C Lorenz visited Willmar Sunday with family after returning from the cities with new stock. Allyn Birch spent Easter Sunday at Hiswick to attend his cousin Mrs Martin Olson's funeral in Benson.

Pioneer resident Jonas Swenson Lof dies at 73 in Mamre

Jonas Swenson Lof, a pioneer resident of Kendiyobi county from Mamre, died Tuesday morning of heart failure at 73. He came to America in 1867 and leaves two sisters, a brother, a daughter Mrs. John C. Hagman, and four grandchildren. Funeral Friday at 3 p.m. from his Mamre home. interment Lundby cemetery. Enormous rush at Estevan as land seekers surge and new business sprouts across the spring scene.

Jubilee service at M. E. church praises election victory

Hogg of the M E church led a jubilee service praising the recent election win and urging temperance supporters to continue the fight to enforce city laws. Rev Hogg delivered a thoughtful sermon urging unity in the administration and faith in lawful progress. Mrs Cairox sang a notable solo enhancing the program.

State Board Sets Teacher Certification Rules

The state high school board issues a notice: after July 31, 1903 no new teacher may be hired without at least a second grade state certificate for grades up to sixth, and at least a first grade certificate for higher grades. Current teachers are exempt from the rule.

Willmar Seminary Principal Considers Whitehall Call

Rev H Solum principal of the Willmar Seminary has received a call from the Lutheran Synod congregation of Whitehall Wisconsin. The large congregation offers a good salary and Solum is under consideration while re election as principal for the coming year is noted, with friends hoping he stays.

Seminary Hema Seeks New Season After Vacation

Seminary Hema resumes after a four day break. Osseo society delays the next event by one week and grants funds to the Seminary baseball team. Grounds improved. students volunteered to sod the field. Under Prof. Hanson and Anton Saterback the team aims for a strong season as preparations begin. A Keystone View Co canvass is planned for summer. Seminary hall hosts a fundraising program with songs and a big lunch for 15 cents at 8 PM.

Presbyterians Hold Tower Sale Success Promises Annual Event

The young ladies of the Presbyter fan church conducted a tower sale last Saturday raising over 80 dollars from sales and refreshments. It was the first such sale in town and is set to become an annual event. The Crosby home was open as the sale venue drawing many buyers for plants and Easter flowers.

Moorhead designer resigns for Fargo post

Khus designs at Moorhead 0.G. Markhus, Moorhead water and light superintendent since October 1898, resigns to become manager for Union Heat Light and Power Co. of Fargo. He is praised as a capable official and earns a promotion. Independent notes local real estate moves and a street-level accident injuring Sam Rasmusson, plus plans for a Bonde Block addition and T. K. Stalland seeking medical consultation in St. Paul.

Wedding Return: Otos Couple Reunites in Willmar

John T. Otos and bride arrived from Duluth and are settled at the Otos residence on Second Street and Litshneld Avenue. Otos receives many congratulations as residents wish the couple happiness in their new home. The bride, formerly with Salvation Army work here, is well known in Willmar and has many friends in Duluth who share in the well wishes.

The Raymond News announces M. A. Scholz resigns after twelve years as postmaster. A petition endorses E. Fayne as successor, likely to be appointed soon. Fayne plans confectionery and news sales in the same building and will run the telephone exchange.

Farm sale transfers 340 acres for 14500 to Nelson

Last Friday F G Handy sold his 340 acre farm southeast for 14500 to Peter J Nelson of Raymond. Nelson also takes Raymond property including the Commercial Hotel and two houses for 88500. Prizes Considered to Reward Fine Wilmar Lawns

At the Commercial Club monthly meeting plans to award prizes for best kept lawns were discussed as a boost to beautification. The idea, successful in St Paul and Minneapolis, was referred to the parks committee. A fall street fair was also debated and sent to celebrations committee. A woolen mill project was discussed with secretary Markhun to contact potential locatees. Four new members joined the club: Marcus Johnson, J P Branton, T B Olson, and J Gust Peterson.

Obituary for Maria Sophia Elmquist Dated 1873

Miss Maria Sophia Elmquist daughter of Mr and Mrs John Elmquist born on the place where she died November 19 1873. She was quiet upright and devout with strong religious convictions. Her death followed a long illness but she never complained and comforted her family with God will be done. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon Rev Lindholm officiating with the text Tealab 28 12.

Mancning resigns from Electric and Water Plant Commission

At a city council meeting last Monday night the resignation of M. D Mancning from the Electric and Water Plant Commission was accepted and Wm J Pioney appointed to succeed him. After approving a few bills the council adjourned to Thursday evening for the old council meeting.

Water Supply Trouble Prompted City Action

City reports a weakening water supply at the power house. City Engineer Johnson says wells need repair and no investigation by the water and light commission has been conducted yet. Officials plan steps to seal the trouble after assessment.
