Kandiyohi County American Legion Meet Sets April 1 in Willmar

Delegates from four Kandiyohi posts and auxiliaries will gather in Willmar on Monday April 1 to discuss the proposed Memorial Hospital for Minnesota ex servicemen in Rochester. Also on the agenda is a summer pledge drive and a housing project at Trott Avenue West, plus contracts for a $16 000 residence with J H Olsen Co Benson plumbing and Peter Pearson electrical work. The Faithon Society of the First Methodist plans a special meeting April 1 at 719 Fourth St West urging member attendance.

Petit Jury Service for John Larson in Minneapolis

John Larson of this city left Monday for Minneapolis to serve on the petit jury in the United States District Court. He attended last week but the prior jury was dismissed and recalled for Monday this week.

Kandiyohi Tennessee Residents Discuss State Aid Roads

A large audience gathered Thursday in the county court chamber to weigh a contract for state aid road No. 6 between Kandiyohi and Tennessee townships. Support split among roads No. 4 and No. 8, with a resolution proposing improvements from road No. 6 to road No. 8 and from No. 4 connection south to Renville County. Proposed by W. J. DeVries and seconded by C. J. Swenson.

County awards contracts totaling seventy two thousand

County commissioners let contracts totaling about 72 670 82 after about fifty bids. Several road and culvert projects are funded with specific firms awarded jobs 2206 2203 2205 2202 2207 2102 and others. Some bids rejected and day labor to be used on roads near Raymond and Atwater. County Agent E L Rodegeb attended Morris meeting with twenty counties. Civic Club meets April 18 with officer elections and a talk by Prof. Geo O Brohaugh.

A Ford Service Station received a carload shipment including two coupes three touring cars and two trucks. Some units are sold while others are kept for stock and display.

Presbyterians in Annual Meeting Report Highlights Growth

The First Presbyterian church held its annual business meeting with supper for over 300. Elders Geo. H. Otterness and Jno C. Jacobs were re elected, J. A. Rowat named trustee for three years. Reports show vigorous growth across departments including doubled Christian Endeavor membership and record Sunday school enrolment. The basement was remodeled, heat added to the manse, and church property remains debt free with over 1200 dollars in reserves.

Easter Cantata At Svea Church By Swedish Choir

The 28 voice Swedish Lutheran church choir directed by Walter Skoglund will present the oratorio Victory at eight o clock Sunday evening. It lasts about two hours with Myrtle Johnson at piano. Admission 25 and 16 cents. The Women’s Athletic Club meets Thursday April 12 in the High School gym with nonmembers admitted for 25 cents.

Garfield Parent Teachers Meeting Set for April 13

The Garfield School Parent Teachers Association will hold its regular meeting next Thursday afternoon April 13. It is urged that as many members as possible attend. A. C. Hildah returned Tuesday from a several weeks trip to Canada where he has been tending farming interests at Estevan.

Creameries Plan Carload Butter Shipments to New York

Minnesota creameries including Raymond, Svea, Clara City, Hancock, Benson, Murdock, Sunbury and Pennock will ship butter in carload lots directly to the New York market. Each car may carry 25 000 to 30 000 pounds with savings of about half a cent per pound. N J Hedlund of the Minnesota Cooperated Creamery Association promoted the move during a Friday visit.

The April meeting of the Commercial Club was held Tuesday evening at the Masonic Temple rooms. A good attendance was present and main business was quickly disposed of. Memorial Hospital plans discussed by Minnesota Legion posts

Austin FP Hanscom Post and three Kandiyohi County posts meet in Willmar on April 17 to discuss a proposed Legion Hospital in Rochester for former service members and dependents. The Mayo Clinic will provide care free of charge where possible, with a payment-ability based contribution from those able to pay, overseen by a Minnesota Legion Board and State Department trustees. The hospital will be owned by the Minnesota Department and funded by Legionnaires, with no fixed dividends and priority care for eligible veterans and families. A fund-raising event in Rosland on April 18 includes admission with lunch and a pie social. Milan A. Colden arrives in Willmar to resume work at Ford Service Station as bookkeeper.

Ten Violators of Fish Laws Arrested at Green Lake

Ten violators of state fish laws were arrested Saturday evening and Sunday morning at Green Lake by Game Wardens Ernest Olson Sam Warner and Hugh Campbell. Eight men used spears on pickerel during a moonlit Saturday evening in the creek feeding Green Lake. Two were surprised Sunday morning. They face Municipal Court this week. The offense carries a ten dollar fine plus costs about three dollars. The season opens May 15.

Helen Hanson celebrates tenth birthday at First Street home

A Tuesday birthday party for Helen Hanson brought together many girl and boy friends who gave her gifts. The event, held at her home on First Street, featured games and refreshments as part of the tenth birthday celebration. Butter tubs ordered for Willmar area distribution

City awards paving contract to McKusick for Hibbing firm

City council settles the Widmar paving affair by awarding the contract to John C. McKusick of Hibbing. Concrete paving is chosen citywide with options for brick or blocks, and a seal coat plan using Tarvia A. The bid includes local labor preference at 30 cents per hour, extensive trenching, duct work, and various road and utility reinforcements for the eighteen foot wide strip along the highway.
