Burglars Open Safe at Pennock

Floren and Benson's general store at Pennock was burglarized last night. The safe was forced open and a sum of cash taken, with entry through a side door and a hole in a panel. Noted as a neat job by the burglars, no goods appeared missing and the thieves escaped unseen. Sheriff Bonde was notified this morning.

Annual Meeting of First Presbyterian Church Elects Elders

The First Presbyterian church and congregation held its annual meeting Tuesday evening. Hollis A. McDonald and H. Sherwood were elected elders. C. A. Bangtson and Charles Eddy also chosen. Treasurer reports $3341.18 collected, with several benevolence funds and societies listing balances. Trustees Anton Bakke and J A Curran elected. budget set at 3000 for the coming year.

Willmar council debates wards and hospital transfers

Old City Council meeting in Willmar on April 9 1917 discussed transfers of insane patients from asylums to Willmar state hospital for inebriates and reported high escapes. The minutes list bills from election judges and city departments, approval of prior meetings, and a plan to hear a petition extending the sprinkling district on West Litchfield Avenue with dates for a public hearing.

Discharged assistant cook loses job over disloyal remarks

Gabriel Zeller, assistant cook at the state hospital for inebriates, was discharged after reports cited uttering disloyal remarks about the United States. The termination was noted by Dr. George Freeman and the state board of control. The item also notes upcoming meetings of Ladies' Guild, Missionary Society, and a Degree of Honor dancing party at the Odd Fellows hall in late April.

Sperry Redfield Quiet Home Wedding in Willmar

Grace H Sperry daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert H Sperry married Orrin H Redfield son of Mr and Mrs William E Redfield of White Bear on Monday April 9 at the bride’s Porto Rico Street home. Rev W Bryn Jones officiated in a ceremony attended by immediate relatives with Elvira Wilson as bridesmaid and Bryan Sperry as groomsman. The living room was festooned with Easter lilies and tulips and a celebratory dinner preceded the ceremony. The newlyweds plan a Pacific coast wedding trip and will reside in Willmar where Redfield is a young engineer with the Great Northern.

Women History Club Visits Governor Rice and Tours Curio Collection

The Women’s History Club met with Mrs. E M Stanford and heard Mrs. William Hengstler discuss Rugs and Rug making from The Mentor. Members toured Gov. A E B Rice’s home to view artifacts from many lands including Chinese rugs and captain Cushman Rice’s hunting curios.

Annual Parish Meeting at St Luke's Elects Officers

The St Luke's church annual parish meeting was held Monday evening at the Guild hall. Treasurers reports were approved and officers elected: Eck Senior Warden for three years, J. H. Wiggins Junior Warden for two years, Alton Crosby Vestryman for three years, Hugh Campbell Vestryman for two years, and Wm. H. Chard Vestryman for one year. The Vestry will discuss calling a new rector soon. Navy Recruiting Station news notes W. E. Alden opened a recruiting station in the post office building and spoke at Appleton on Tuesday. Large State Institute funds approved by Senate Finance

A total of 371000 was appropriated for the Willmar State Asylum for the year ending July 31. Allocations include cottages, water system work, repairs, and improvements across 1918 and 1919. The plan moves the institution to an Insane Hospital status August 1 with use of one wing for harmless insane and patients until new cottages are built. The inebriate department remains separate.

Lyric Chorus Impressive Willmar Concert Debut

Gustavus Adolphus College Lyric Chorus will perform at Willmar Goers House on Tuesday April 17 under Willmar High School auspices. It marks their fifth annual tour, first Willmar appearance, with advance tickets from students or Tribune office. The program includes new songs and violin, baritone, and tenor solos led by Prof Harry Hedberg with Prof A W Anderson directing. Proceeds support attendance and cultural outreach for local audiences.
