Mrs Helen Monson an early member of the Whitefield community and longtime Willmar resident died at her daughter and son in law’s home in this city on a Wednesday in March aged about TS years. Born December 4 1841 in Kristianstadslin Sweden she married Ven M Monson in 1866 and emigrated to America in 1869 landing at Vasa Minnesota on midsummer day.

Last Sunday a fire destroyed the Andrew Johnson farm home on Whitefield's section 31. The blaze started in the roof and was not noticed until it was well under way. Ransom Johnson rode to warn his father as the oldest son was ill and needed help escaping. The daughter saved 1300 in liberty bonds. little else of value was saved. The two story 28 by 30 building suffered an estimated 10 000 loss with scant insurance. This follows recent influenza losses that took two Johnson brothers Arthur and Russel, leaving the family in mourning and deserving public sympathy.

Glen Follette of Atwater was arrested in Willmar after stealing a diamond ring valued at about 500 to 600 and $600 in Liberty bonds from his father’s safety deposit box.
