Willmar No-License Victory Sets Record Dry Majority

The city backed a dry policy with an unprecedented margin of 158 votes, larger than the prior record. Supporters celebrated in wards two and three amid active campaigning by liquor interests and railroad workers, while Attorney Samuel Porter was re-elected city attorney and Lawson conceded. The Tribune notes railroad ties to the outcome and predicts continued conflict with the telephone trust and Northwestern railroad interests.

Spicer on Green Lake Sued as Town Helpers Celebrate

Sues notes Spicer on Green Lake on April 5. About forty Spicerites gathered in Mardin's hall for a pleasant surprise for Mrs. Saul. The evening featured games, piano music, and singing by Miss Jennie Mardin and Charles Knutson. A midnight lunch was served and Mrs. Soul received a cash purse of 13 dollars. Many local residents visited nearby towns, and couples and families joined in various social outings.

Obituary of Knut Halverson Passes After Long Illness

Knut Halverson, longtime Eagle Lake area farmer, died of liver cancer last Monday at his home in Green Lake. Born in Valders Norway in 1835, he settled in Wisconsin in 1869 after stints in La Crosse and Carver County. He leaves three daughters Mrs. Conrad Peterson, Mrs. C. A. Kulberg, Mrs. J. H. O’Leary. and two sons Joseph and Albert. He served briefly in Company H of the First Minnesota Heavy Artillery in 1865. Funeral services set for Thursday at the house and the Eagle Lake church, with interment in the adjacent cemetery.

Erick and Edla Erickson Dead in Idaho Home

Erick G. Erickson and his wife Edla died at their Lewisville Idaho home on March 29 1909 within thirty minutes of each other. The couple born in Sweden emigrated to America in 1880 settling in Polk County Nebraska before moving to Atwater Minnesota in 1896 then to North Dakota in 1900 Murray Utah in 1905 and a Lewisville claim in 1906. Survived by three sons Gust Ernest and Abel. The funeral was at the Lewisville meeting house Thursday afternoon with Presidents Walker and W W Lehk J and Joe Lester delivering the principal speeches. Remains buried in the Lewisville cemetery.

Monday Afternoon Club Meeting in Willmar

A regular gathering at Mrs. Rice's home on April 5 welcomed the leader back from the south. Members auctioned Rose MacLeod Vera the Medium and The Girl in Question, reviewed Chapter IV, and admired souvenirs from Hot Springs before adjournment. The March 19 program features Chapter V review by Mesdames Quale and Thomas and Bolivia lessons, plus notes on the Commercial Club meeting and the skidoo number 23.

Colonel B Nelson to visit Willmar with two meetings

Colonel B Nelson and Staff Captain Holstein will visit Willmar next Wednesday April 14. They will hold two Salvation Army meetings at the Hell building, 3 p m and 8 p m. The evening session will charge ten cents admission. the afternoon session is free. The 8 p m meeting will enroll new officers for the Willmar Army.

Roads and cantata fill Willmar club agenda

The Commercial club pressed for road improvements in south and southwest Willmar, seeking county funds and local business support after September 1 to prevent mail route cuts. The club added 22 new members and planned a Ruth cantata at the Lutheran Synod church with soloists and choir under Prof. Lillegaard, plus a Yankee in Europe lecture by G W E Hill. Also reported death of baby Alvin Lowell, funeral Sunday. Voter turnout Latenneld Licensing: License carried by 73 margin 277 to 204, down from last year due to temperance effort.

Carleton Glee Club Impresses in Willmar Return

The Carleton Glee Club returned to Willmar Monday evening and charmed audiences with a lively mix of pieces from playful tunes to Redman's Death Chant. Violinist Jessie Law and pianist Minnie Hellekson enhanced the program, which closed with readings by Boyd Fuller. The club dined with locals at the Sherwoods before heading to Marshall.
