Visitors and guests brighten week across towns

A string of visitors and hosts fill the week as Roy Landberg visits Twin City area, Miss Della Hanson stays with New London friends, and many others travel to Minneapolis, Benson, Danvers, and Sioux City. Notables include Miss Margaret Kennedy, Miss Hilda Slattum, and Mrs. S. P. Johnson heading to Buffalo, South Dakota for claims. The Strollers Quartet entertained at the Presbyterian church.

Evening lecture course pleases audience with music

The Citizens lecture series closed under the Presbyterian church Men’s League with a program that featured tunes like Sunset and Cros sing the Bar and two songs The Secret and Linger Not sung by Ray A. Carpenter. The course was a success and hints of a new series next year are expected.

Gilbert Appointed Judge of Probate in Kandiyohi County

Governor A O Eberhart appoints Atty T O Gilbert to fill the unexpired term of the late A F Nordin as Kandiyohi county judge of probate. Gilbert, born in 1878 near Christiania Norway, emigrated with his family, studied at Augsburg seminary and Minnesota University law, and began practice in Willmar in 1904. He assumes office after taking charge Monday afternoon.

Obituary: Mrs. Ingeborg Samstad dies in Tennessee farm

Mrs. Ingeborg Samstad, 48, wife of Gunder B. Samstad, died Friday night March 25 at a Tennessee farm from pulmonary tuberculosis after five months of illness. Born August 4, 1861 in Selbo Norway, she married Oct 22 1884. Survived by husband and eight children. Funeral held at home 11 am and Norwegian Lutheran Synod church in Atwater 1 pm. Buried Throndbjem cemetery. Attending from afar listed local friends.

Funeral of A F Nordin at St Luke’s Church

Funeral services for the late A F Nordin were held Thursday afternoon at St Luke's Episcopal Church conducted by Rev Horatio Gates. More than 1000 attendees viewed the bier as his body lay in state before interment at Fairview cemetery. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers named. many local orders and societies joined the procession. Nordin had long served St Luke's, was senior warden, vestry member, clerk and treasurer, and active in M W A A C U W Knights of Pythias and Swedish Literary society.

District Court Adjourns After Nine Session Days

The March term of district court closed on Thursday after nine days. Several cases were disposed of, including Elmer Erickson pleading guilty and paying costs with a $500 bond for the fine. A barber shop fire in the Ekander building caused about $1300 in damages, with insured shops also affected and owners unsure about continuing in the same building.

Brave Old Soldier Will Regain Sight

Willmar resident Mr. A. H. Sperry endured two painful eye operations in St. Paul to restore his sight. He refused anaesthetic during the procedure removing both eyes, yet remains hopeful about vision and registered to vote in the Third ward. His bravery is noted as he recognizes the benefit despite suffering.

Mrs Mary Bennett Suffers Paralytic Stroke in City Hotel

Mrs Mary Bennett, 51, sister of Conductor L H LeSeur, has been unconscious since last Thursday after a stroke caused by a brain clot. She and her father H J LeSeur moved from St Paul to this city, living at the Central Hotel for about 18 months. Her death is expected momentarily.

Atwater student Martha Bakken visited classes on Monday while Archie Carlson discussed current events on Tuesday. Seniors will take geography Thursday. Homer Chase hosted friends Friday night on 10th street. Minneapolia visitor Lillian Benson and cousin Borghild Sand attended Tuesday. David Nyquist returned Tuesday from Olivia. A 10 cent admission was set for a Wednesday baseball game against the seminary at the school grounds. Red Cross Society meets Thursday at 3 PM at the Commercial Club rooms. Mrs Gee and Mrs Henry G Meyer lead the effort against tuberculosis.

Mayoral trial ends with a not guilty verdict

H. and Peterson, mayor, faced assault and battery charges in Municipal Court after C. F. Spencer’s complaint. After testimony from six state witnesses, the jury of local businessmen found Peterson not guilty in about twenty minutes. The panel included L. A. Tresvold and John Sandeen among others.

Immigrants who did not apply under old law in 1901 era

Nine individuals listed including Emil Anderson Gustaf Peterson Sigvart Fredrickson and others born in Sweden Denmark Norway Canada and Denmark could have had citizen papers under the old law, arriving before 1901, but they failed to apply. H J Dragt arrived in 1881 and O J Emberland has resided since 1883 in Willmar and Kandiyohi area.

Victor Knutson to front in Todd Co. schools

A telegram reports Victor S Knutson son of Erick Knutson of Fahlun and a Willmar High School standout was appointed Todd County superintendent of schools by a four to one board vote. The position pays 1800 dollars yearly and follows a year as Burtrum principal.
