North Dakota voters warned on debt limit amendments
F C Hellstrom of Bismarck, former governor candidate, issues a letter urging Burleigh county voters to oppose all ten proposed constitutional amendments. He argues raising the debt limit risks bondage, states bonds become a first mortgage on every asset, and warns against removing safeguards that protect property and liberty. He cites fraudulent bond issues and appeals to patriotism, cautioning against class taxation and loss of public accountability.

Allied Offensives Expand In Lorraine St Mihiel Salient
American and French forces opened a major offensive on a twelve mile front around the St Mihiel salient in Lorraine near Verdun. French and British units pushed toward La Fere and St Quentin while Haig’s troops pressed along the Hindenburg line. By September 14 the front had straightened from about 40 miles to 20 miles, enabling massed Allied forces for future operations and the potential direct invasion of German territory. More than 13,000 German prisoners were reported and Allied air and artillery targeted Metz and surrounding rail hubs as plans for further advances formed.
