M S Phillips harvested 16 acres near Williston, North Dakota, yielding 3,700 bushels of large smooth tubers. Offers of 1.10 per bushel seen, with expectations prices higher in spring. Tuesday afternoon Mrs Ww F Currie pleasantly entertained a party of her friends. Cards sewing and luncheon were the features of the afternoon. Mrs J W Jackson will entertain the bridge club Friday evening complimentary to Mrs C Herschel Koy and Mrs Davis. Mrs Albert Husebye entertained a party of young folks Wednesday evening. Pretty Halloween decorations and a dainty lunch were attractions.

Catholic Ladies bazaar at the Armory presents a home talent play on Friday evening October 20 with scenes set in the South before the war and evolving to present local surroundings. Cast includes Wm Miller Yale graduate Frank Merrill Martha Brown Myrtle McKenna Sam Herman Callahan Bill Scott Jack Heffernan Jeannette Craven Binet Conlin and Campbell Minkler with musical numbers by Onstad's Orchestra and between act specialties by Miss Jeannette Craven.

Congressman P Norton, visiting the Slope fair in western North Dakota, urged a $50 000 appropriation to fund lignite coal experiments. He claimed lignite contains gasoline dye and could power the nation, and said federal aid for a Missouri River bridge is unlikely though state roads funds may help. Norton predicted Missouri river towns will grow into a large city powered by river electricity.
The annual Williston versus Minot high school football game is set for Bruegger field at 8 o clock next Saturday. Williston, the 1916 squad, seeks to reclaim past laurels while Minot, fresh from wins over Carrington and Kenmare, looks to extend its strong form with coach Cutting optimistic yet cautious. A large home crowd is urged to support Williston.
Rummage sale scheduled for Saturday October 28 by the La kes of Saint Peters Epis at Firstdiag Wms Co State Bank, 18-11.
Williston welcomed a record crowd for Williston Day with a large parade and afternoon activities. An estimated 5 000 buns, a three year old steer, two barrels of cider, 100 pounds of coffee, and other items vanished from the menu as townspeople traded and celebrated. The roasted ox pleased all, the weather was ideal, and visitors from near and far joined locals for the biggest street gathering in years.
New South Wing of Central School under construction due December 1 at a cost of 35000. The plan mirrors the North Wing built two years ago and will replace the 1809 Central building to harmonize the group. Enrollment growth shows 1896 to 1919 rising from 88 pupils to about 1000 across grades and high school.
A slick traveling salesman John A Richardson operated a thriving second hand machinery business across western towns, taking advance freight payments and delaying delivery. In Helena Sheriff Rolla Duncan circulated notices, Richardson was captured by Deputy Hayes and jailed on the charges, ending his enterprise.
The Minnesota Supreme Court upheld a lower court decision quashing a habeas corpus writ and sending Era Bond a Minneapolis broker to custody for delivery to Chicago authorities. The governor has already granted Bond's extradition in connection with the alleged automobile theft syndicate.
Lars Olson, 23, a threshing worker for Gunderson and Johnson, was shot to death in a box car in Stanley railroad yards around 1:30 AM while two companions rode toward the Twin Cities. M. Gillispie escaped to summon help as three robbers fled empty handed after the fatal confrontation. Authorities conducted a coroner's inquest. one suspect Riley confessed to being present but claimed not to fire the shot. Olsen’s body to be shipped to Wisconsin. investigation ongoing for the two other murderers.
The Williams County Better Farming Association outlines plans for the third annual Williams County Agricultural Convention at Williston December 12 13 14 15 1916 with talks by practical farmers and students on pastures marketing small grain, plus discussions on farmers elevator boards and county livestock sales to keep money in county. Marquis wheat seed guidance favors best land conditions and discusses other wheat varieties with Williston Experiment Station as best local authority. invites county agents to gather ideas and organize spring sales of horses cattle and other stock.
The Civic League met Tuesday evening at Mrs John Brueggers home with Mrs Jos Greengard and Mrs Bruegger hosting a six oclock dinner The program included a roll call and selections instrumental duet by Mrs U L Burdick and Mrs M H Agen a Kipling reading by Mrs Paul Leonhardy and a lesson review The next meeting will be at Mrs U L Burdicks home noting the date change from October 8 to October 9 due to a county teachers meeting
