Funeral held at the home of his father for Martin A. Tofte a Williams County draft boy who left September 5. The Wil liston Home Guard detail led by Captains Newell and Jeffries conducted services. He contracted pneumonia after three weeks at Camp Grant and Camp Hancock Georgia, died October 3 after five days illness. Remains shipped from Camp Hancock, arriving home Tuesday. Survived by father Mathias Tofte, mother Annie Tofte, six brothers and one sister living at the family home fifteen miles northwest of Spring Brook Dublin township. Community sharply shocked, family receives wide sympathy.

Reports reached Williston this week that Joseph C. Burnham who left with Company E was killed in action in France. After reaching France he was transferred to another company. The death notice was wired to his brother. Burnham was well known in Williston and spent years here as a barber before joining the army.

Schools and Theatres Closed by Health Order in Williston
Williston public schools theatres and churches were closed this week by a health department order due to Spanish influenza with cases reported in the city and surrounding country. Health Officer Dr. MacManus said closures would likely last at least a week or until the epidemic runs its course. Many cases are mild and the situation was managed promptly.
