In a sweeping national result the Republican Party claims about 400 electoral votes while Roosevelt finishes as the second largest vote getter in history. The Democrat landslide marks a historic high for the party in this election cycle.
Early returns show Wilson leading nationally with about 100 electoral votes from 681. Roosevelt strong in Illinois and Pennsylvania. Taft and Roosevelt split Republican votes allowing several Democrats to win state offices and legislatures. North Dakota and Minnesota lean Democratic as county results come in.
The state teachers association held its largest meeting yet in Grand Forks with twelve hundred fifty members. Attendees included Williston officials Miss Mary F. McAndrew Miss Bertha R. Palmer and Mr Forster from city schools and Mrs Marta P. Tatem from county schools. Lectures by Dr Woods Hutchinson Dr Henry S Curtiss and J Adams Puffer sparked discussion on fresh air in schools the boy and his gang and the playground movement.
Jamestown residents report that George Baker killed his father in law Thomas Glass and Glass's wife, Mrs Baker, at their Dawson home at 7 a m. Baker, who left with a child, was arrested and jailed in Steele County. Threats of lynching followed as the family feud and alleged name changes emerged.
A Gatea Hall audience packed to hear Mrs. J E Stevens of Grand Forks on TB prevention and cure. Senator Overson opened with remarks stressing prevention as key to controlling the disease and urged public effort to aid sufferers.
The Better Farming Association adds J R Campbell to be stationed at Mott and C Q Phelps at Fessenden Wells County. Secretary Cooper plans more hires as counties affiliate. George M Gray of Kenmare longtime North Dakota Republican leader dies at 41 after a ten day illness. He leaves a wife and three children. Funeral held at the Kenmare Presbyterian church.
James Berry was arrested on a warrant charging assaulting Dora Saluski a widow living near Squires. He appeared before Justice Asen with evidence from the States Attorney describing Berry breaking down a door and pursuing the woman into a shack, then repeating the assault after returning her inside. He was held on a 3200 bond to await district court.
Walter Durant of McKenzie county nearly died while digging a well for Albert Lite last week. Ed Freshaw rescued Durant after he became unconscious at the bottom of an eighty seven foot shaft and, with help, pulled him to safety. Durant revived after an hour of effort.
Torstein T manager of Ellsworth North Dakota and Sigrid Skat sebe of Alexander North Dakota married by Rev J B Falkanger on November 5. Boston special suit sale advertised for Saturday and next week at 50 cents on the dollar.
Countywide returns from 63 of 68 precincts show the Republican ticket largely victorious with Sheriff elect Carl Erickson narrowly ahead socialist rival Otesa. Other county offices enshrine majorities for Siebert, Tatem, Agen, Lindahl, Distad, Burdick, Higley, Field, Butler, and Nelson. Norton leads in Congress. Wilson carries state per final tallies.
Returns lagged due to long ballots and limited knowledge of overall results until late Wednesday. Most legislative outcomes remain unreleased with only minor changes possible, while county commissioner results show Second District Arnt 77, Hegge 219, Pendleton 226. Fourth District Webb 125, Chamberlain 107, Gulickson 67, Miller 91. Fifth District Lee 65, Miles 57.
The Salvation Army reports a successful Harvest Festival at Gates Hall on election night raising 132.40 from donated merchant items sold at auction. Capt. Levine thanks city merchants and buyers for generous support, with Dick inson as auctioneer selling most items and a lively crowd enjoying the band’s performances.
Dick Hawley appeared before Justice Field on a charge of bribing a witness in a liquor selling case. Bond set at $1,000. W. J. Parley faced liquor law violations with bond set at $1,000. Charlie Popendietz reports wheat yield at 26 bushels, with 104 29 bushels per acre.
