Big Railroad Meeting at Rudser Saturday

A Williston area railroad boosters meeting at Rudser last Saturday drew a cross section of local leaders and residents. Attendees included the Commercial Club president, Williston editors, lawyers, doctors, and Irrigation project figures like Mr. Sinclair and Mr. Arthur. Hans Larson opened the session and A H Brown presided with M A Alvein as secretary as plans were laid to push a new electric line and road right of way through farming districts.

City Commissioners Meet in City Hall Transacts Business

The city commissioners held a Monday meeting in city hall and approved routine bills. City Engineer Evans got a salary raise to 1.10 starting March due to extensive work on filter plant plans. George Bissell resigned as Superintendent of Light and Water. C C Mackenroth returned as superintendent. An awning ordinance was read on first passage. Rather Drug Store won city poor drug contract. Champion and Meyer won burial contracts. Doctor L B Dochterman’s bid for City physician was accepted.

Recent storms soaked the country leaving fields moisture filled and soil ready for fast growth. Farmers report little hindrance to seeding and anticipate rapid grain growth once fall weather driesout.

Fakirs Operate Old Time Game in St Paul Station

In St Paul Minnesota May 2 Martin Binnes traveling from Fargo North Dakota to Des Moines Iowa paid 35 dollars to a man matching a Croesus type in the Great Northern station. A second accomplice appeared as an express messenger claiming a 50 dollar charge for sending a package. Binnes only had 15 dollars and offered 857 more, then alerted a policeman and planned to dispatch the package.

Change Planned on West Second Street Landmark Move

City Commissioners award contract to Julius Nelson to relocate the former Denny residence to widen West Second Street. The land extending into the street by eight to ten feet will be incorporated, placing the new street alignment on the north side and altering the appearance of the block.

Mexicans Ready to Destroy Road in Vera Cruz Conflict

Washington dispatches report Mexican federal troops mined the railroad from Mexico City to Vera Cruz in preparation for destroying the line if American forces advance. Mines spaced about a half mile apart, with fuses to be triggered by Mexican soldiers. Reports note rising defenses and concern from General Funston as Navy figures discuss Tampico readiness and possible actions by Admiral Mayo. Larimore North Dakota May 5 Nelson resigns as mayor, Arthur Bridgeford chosen as successor. The new mayor removes M. W. Edwards and E. C. Walster as chief of police and city auditor, replacing them with Richard Fadden and N. J. Powell. Nelson’s resignation follows friction over those removals. he won a prolonged legal contest with M. Gass by drawing lots.

Release on his honor aids murder convict's funeral trip

Bismarck, April 80. Denver Woods, 19, from Mart North Dakota, released from the penitentiary on his honor to attend his mother's funeral 500 miles away after a pardon plea to the board had been denied. He traveled to Baker, Montana, reached the funeral, then returned to Bismarck and was jailed for leaving the cell before daylight.
