Desperate Port Arthur Clash Repeats Japanese Blockade Attempt
From Petersburg March 29 Vice Admiral Togo led a night attempt to bottle Port Arthur. Russian Admiral Makaroff engaged at dawn and Japanese torpedo boats were sunk or forced ashore. The Silna saved by Krimski fought off six attacking torpedo boats, with seven Japanese killed and Russian losses heavy. The harbor remained under Russian defense and reports say Makaroff’s fleet stood ready to engage.
