Williams County in the extreme northwest of North Dakota borders the Missouri River with about 250 miles of river frontage. It spans nearly 4 500 square miles and about 3 000 000 acres of farming and grazing land. The county sits atop lignite coal beds up to twenty feet thick and has sulfur beds nearby.
