An informal Saturday social at Birpriso featured many guests including Mr. and Mrs. Brownson Mr. and Mrs. Sharp and others. Lively music followed by refreshments at the hostesses house.
Before Sundays ball game locals organized a grand Fourth of July celebration inviting neighbors from within forty miles. A subscription drive raised funds for prizes, food tables, ice cream, lemonade, and fireworks. A free grand fireworks display is promised the evening of the Fourth, with stalls selling sweets and games at cost. A ball game against Neeson and Grinnell drew crowds, and a forthcoming candy contest and a trip to Holland's 20th for patronage to a winter entertainment were announced. The rain impressed attendees despite the hot game and social gathering.
The district buzzes with residents E L Moore and Fred Beutler moving and building while Cherry Marries visits Mam coulee. Dr Collins travels to St Paul, wolves multiply and calves fall, hay stocks cushion winter, rock hauling for railroad continues, and a snake eater draws a crowd with a vivid head-biting display.
Reports from Vivay county describe Canadian outlaws Jones and Nelson raiding across the line for over a year, driving off hundreds of horses and cattle. A Valley county pursuit failed, and towns like Culbertson faced gunfire as desperadoes attacked with rifles while cowboys were outgunned. Local vigilance may form if arrests fail, with talk of possible Canadian incursions.
