L W Braman father of Mrs A L Butler of this city died at his home near Buford Sunday morning July 9 and was buried in Williston cemetery Monday. Born August 22 1842 in New York he served in the Civil War and later lived in Illinois Nebraska Kalispell Montana and Coeur d Alene Idaho before settling on a Buford area farm in 1908. He was a Grand Army of the Republic member and a Mason at Mondak Montana.

Williston, July 11 preparations for the departure of the First North Dakota Infantry United States Volunteers are underway. The first battalion has begun striking tents and preparing to entrain for the south as camp grounds are vacated. Lieutenant Fred Moore is appointed to Company M, replacing Harley Hanson who failed medical exams. Metzger, Williston, now first sergeant of Company M, takes over from B. E. Stevens. Destination is censored, but rumors place the unit near El Paso Texas or San Diego California.

Williston Man Will Not Recover From Brain Injury
W K Benton a former Great Northern trainmaster on the Williston division was fatally wounded when struck by a snow plow on the Berthold branch in February. He lay unconscious for eleven days in St Paul then showed partial improvement but never regained usable speech. Doctors trepanned him but brain degeneration progressed and current prognosis is hopeless.

Conductor W. Brown aged 54, employed 25 years by Northern Pacific, was killed on train No. 4 between Glendive and Billings. A drunken man struck Brown with a beer bottle as he checked receipts. The assailant was seized by passengers and handed to officers at Glendive. Brown will be buried from his daughter's home, Mrs. Hurley Malone.
