Molluscs sea urchins and cephalopods are gathered by Chinese fishermen and canned for shipment to China for food and fertilizer. Chinese sailors use torches to lure squid, drying them before shipping. Mixing dried squid with salt yields fertilizer sold in China at a low duty, while salt duties are high.
