Robert L. Stewart known as the bri quette man faced a hearing on resisting an officer and was bound over to district court by Justice Allen. Bonds set at 200 dollars. Stewart could not post bonds promptly and stayed with the sheriff briefly. Bodies of American consul and wife found in Messina ruins
The bodies of Arthur S. Cheney and his wife were recovered from the American consulate in Messina after the earthquake. Sailors aboard the battleship Illinois located them and shipments are arranged to transport remains to Naples aboard the Culgoa. Cheney served in the U S consular service since 1906 and was posted to Messina in 1907.
