Escaped from Winnipeg Jail

John Krefchenko, a notorious Western Canada criminal, escaped from Winnipeg Central Police cells at 2:30 am after seizing a guard revolver and using a rope to drop to the lane. Authorities posted a $7,000 reward for his capture and accomplices.

The city commissioners met on Monday and accepted N B Ludanese's resignation as city auditor. George Harvey was appointed to fill the vacancy. Plans and specifications for a filter plant stand pipe and electric pump were ordered. The engineer was instructed to prepare them. A filter plant is urged before spring high water. The Bishop's committee of the Episcopal church hosts a party next Friday evening January 16.

Argentine Corn Lands At New York Port After Tariff Change

Nearly 300000 bushels of Argentine corn unloaded at New York port amid tariff act changes. Over 1,000,000 bushels have entered the United States since the tariff went into effect, with 13 ships en route or loading. A U.S. syrup maker has 1,000,000 bushels under contract as imports are expected to rise with the new Argentine crop. Rail and dock facilities are strained but being upgraded to handle the influx.

In 1913 EB McCutcheon reports 74 arrests in District No. 1 with 70 convictions and two dismissals. Fines total $1,002 directed to county school funds. two jailed ten days each. Revenue for the district reached $18,268.55, with $16,447.85 to the state Game fund and a net gain cited for taxpayers. Confiscated property included 2 guns 239 muskrat traps 16 beaver traps 182 muskrat skins 12 fish nets.
