The Top Hatty Man and His Gothic Garb

The Independent describes the top hatty male, detailing high turnover collars, unglossy linen, unusual bow ties, short sack coats with fullness, very full trousers, and a rigid waistcoat. It notes an armor of chest emphasis, whaling the abdomen, and a jaunty derby, plus a gait combining awkwardness with grace and a collection of accessories and initials on buttons.

Quotations and Anecdotes From A Chromatic Page

Fragments from a column mix dialogue and jokes. Col. Stilwell praises progress and a sunny region while a young girl extols its salubrious air. A drought story and charity aid contrasts with light exchanges about pricing eggs and wheat. Humorous vignettes touch on connoisseurs, broad-mindedness, and a Philadelphia divorce note.
