Marmon notes two young horses owned by Gudor Loken and Fred Anderson were killed by gunfire last week on prairie land. A third horse owned by G Loken was shot but survived. He calls the act deliberate animal cruelty and urges punishment if proven, ending with a quip about want ads.
Trade between the United States and noncontiguous territories such as Alaska Hawaii Porto Rico the Philippines Guam Tutuila and the Midway Islands rose to about 202.5 million dollars in 1910 from 100.1 million in 1903. Exports from territories to the U S climbed 82 percent while U S exports to the territories jumped 139 percent. Gold movements are excluded.
The James Memorial library will be dedicated next Monday with afternoon exercises from two to five o'clock including addresses and music. An evening dance and banquet follow at nine o'clock, priced three dollars per couple, extra ladies one dollar, and gentlemen two dollars. Public invitation extended to both events.
The Young People Society and Ladies Aid announce a basket social to fund basement improvements at United Lutheran Church. All are invited to attend Wednesday March 1 at 8 30 p m one block south of the new library on the same street. Proceeds support the church and are gratefully received.
A. E. Lowe, after a year at the Robert Slater store, has leased the Halverson feed store and assumed charge yesterday morning. Halverson will devote himself to farming and keep his home in Williston. Lowe brings ample experience in feed trade and is expected to succeed.
Bernard Metzner, an elder resident near Yellowstone, is named as one of three heirs to a German uncle's fortune of one and a half million dollars. He expects to receive his share by July first and plans a trip to Germany afterward.

The Treasury Department accepted the enlarged Congregational church site in Williston North Carolina for a federal building. The price is ten thousand dollars. Treasury planned about forty thousand dollars for the project this year and work should start this summer with foundation this fall and completion about a year from next fall.

Peter Heibert a 32 year old farmer living four miles south of Wheelock shot himself with a revolver last Thursday afternoon. Neighbors noted his mental distress and Dr Gray attended but could not prevent the tragedy. He died Friday morning after an inquest found death due to insanity. Heibert owned land and stock and leaves two brothers in South Dakota and Omaha.
Judge Frank Fisk schedules a special term on March 14 to hear naturalization petitions and motions. Jury also convenes. both criminal and civil cases to be taken up. He plans to clear the calendar and may bring in another judge to wrap up matters in which he was attorney.
Salvation Army hosts a box social at the hall on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Local corps members are asked to bring boxes while coffee and cake will be served to those who do not secure boxes. Everyone is welcome.
The curate preaches at 11 a.m. on Lent What it means to an Episcopalian and at 7 30 p.m. Lent What it ought to mean to every Christian. Mr H R Evans will sing a solo at the evening service.
The three act comedy Message from Mayfair will be staged by local talent at Gates Opera House on Tuesday evening February 28. Led by Harry McKay and Al Burke the cast includes Mrs Sutherland Mrs Corbett as Mrs Brown Martha Christian name and more. Special musical numbers by Williston musicians and noted soloists Miss Young Mrs Jennison Mr Evans Mrs Broderick will add entertainment.
