Williston citizens push to revive the Commercial Club by securing 8 rooms, hiring a secretary, and expanding to about 150 members. The group plans to attract visitors, host events, and boost exhibits for the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition traffic through the city.
The legislature weighs creating an experimental station in western North Dakota under the School of Mines to study lignite coal uses including briquetting and gas production. Reports from Grand Forks show briquetting results promising, with potential economic benefits and cheaper western gas. John Harrison, involved in U S reclamation at Dodson, Montana, has returned home to Marmon.
Maxbass North Dakota February 13 J P Thompson a local farmer killed himself at his son's home by ingesting carbolic acid. He had long threatened self harm and recently faced district court with $1000 bonds over a mortgage dispute. His troubles and pressure to appear before a jury were cited as factors.
W. O. Hollar, a noted local photographer, lost about forty to fifty dollars worth of plates and films in a recent fire that destroyed his photograph gallery. He had a fine collection and had planned to have the films developed, but the flames reached them.
The North Dakota senate approved Plain's initiative and referendum bill by 27 to 20, adding an amendment to apply it to the constitution. An attempt to refer the measure to the judiciary failed 20 to 27, while Senator Simpson pushed for broader constitutional application amid opposition.

A bill from the North Dakota Educational Committee aims to integrate tuberculosis prevention into school physiology by amending the law. The measure also covers school sanitation, patriotic observances, treasury vacancy handling, and extending the school year from six to seven months.
Senator Purcell of Wahpeton introduces concurrent resolution in North Dakota Senate urging that North Dakotans be named receivers when state banks fail. The measure asks congressional support to prevent special receivers from being appointed, with outreach to the treasury secretary and comptroller of the currency.
Robert Sayre Wittmeier and Beatrice Hester Burleigh, both of the city, were married Sunday at 9:30 AM in a double ring ceremony at the Wittmeier home. Rev. F. S. Hollett officiated. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wittmeier and others. A lavish wedding breakfast followed.
President Roosevelt and officials met with Senators McCumber Hansbrough and Representatives Marshall and Grenna to review about 1800 acres where final proof was suspended due to coal deposits. The officials must apply the settlers’ view that agricultural value outweighs coal worth, allowing completion of proof unless coal is clearly valuable.
Mr and Mrs Wittmeier will reside in their Williston home during winter then relocate to Culbertson where Robert Wittmeier will join his father’s store. The bride, a Williston teacher for about two years, and the groom, a lifelong hard worker, receive Graphic congratulations on their future.
In Kenmare North Dakota on February 13 a three year old child of Mrs Emil Strange died in a blaze that consumed her home. Firemen faced heat and smoke while Fireman J M Smith entered the wall to rescue the child but failed. The house was a total loss and the flames likely started from a stove.
Services at the Congregational church scheduled for Sunday morning and evening February 21. Dr. Vittum, president of Fargo College, will preach at 11 a.m. and 7 30 p.m. The notice invites all to attend.
Taken up Feb 5 1908 in Williston city by Thomas Hennighan chief of police. One gray gelding weight about 1100 pounds with a white forehead stripe and white hind feet. Branded on the right shoulder though brand is unknown. Owner may reclaim by calling police and paying all costs.
The Williston Driving Association formed by Williston businessmen invites horse owners to enter speed horses for a June 1 2 3 1909 meet. Independent of the Williams County Fair, the group offers purses and a half mile track, with C H McKay as secretary.
