Poisoned by Robbers in Revenge Plot Across States

J W Potter of Monroe County reports from Modoc County Oregon that his brother R P Courtwright and his son were poisoned by bank robbers they testified against. The son died. the father survived. Courtwright, an elderly local figure, once engineer on the La Crosse and Milwaukee railway and first to run a train on that line, went to California in 1861.

Senate Debates Militia Bill and Omnibus Statehood Measure

Washington December 16 The Senate debated the militia efficiency bill and the omnibus statehood measure. An amendment striking section 24 on reserve trained forces sparked discussion.
