Excursion steamer J. S. trapped on sand bar near Dresbach
In Tremaleau Wisconsin on August 27 the steamer J. S. carrying 2200 excursionists from Winona to La Crosse ran aground on a Mississippi sand bar fourteen miles below Tremaleau.
