Land case heard by Land Commissioner in Westby vs Jenson

Local attorneys from Schafer and Palmer firms appeared Tuesday and Wednesday before Land Commissioner Snyder to try the land dispute Ranguard Westby versus Pearl Jenson. Owens represented the plaintiff while Palmer Craven and Kellogg defended the defendant. No decision is expected soon.

Town Sisters Entertained By Helping Hand Society

The Book and Thimble club hosted out of town guests at Palmier school house with B and T members arriving by carriages and cabs. Mrs Grogan and Mrs Dochtermann directed a grand transport showing. dining and music followed a country school games program. Birthplace roll revealed many states Canada and Sweden. dinner described as an exceptional old fashioned feast with fried chicken noted by the B and T sisters.

Fibre Site Assured Two Thousand Dollars Subscribed

A Commercial Club meeting approved funds and plans for a flax fibre plant site. Members discussed joining a state federation, the Twin City land show, and preparations for the St Paul and Bismarck expositions to boost Northwest development. A committee will be appointed to investigate federation enrollment and exhibit funding.

Building contract for new central school to Austin & Abbott

At a Monday night school board meeting the contract for a rear central school building was awarded to Austin & Abbott for 2364 dollars. The three room structure plus cloak rooms and vestibules will be heated from the basement and aimed for completion by next month barring bad weather. Ground breaking occurred Tuesday morning with rapid progress planned. bids ranged up to about 2600 dollars.

Painter Nick Spang and singer Nick Held crash on return trip

Nick Spang painter and Nick Held sewing machine agent rode a Culbert motorcycle Sunday. They outpaced Mercury on the outbound but hit a Montana mud hole on the return, flipped in mid air and were tossed to the ground. Both suffered only bruises and sprains and returned home by train Monday.

Stark County Farmers Picnic Draws Four Hundred Attendees

About four hundred farmers attended the first annual dry farming picnic at the Experimental farm near the city. Prof. Waldron supervised as Prof. J. H. Shepard and T. A. Hoverstad from the Agricultural College spoke on scientific farming and moisture conservation.

Williston Public Schools Set To Open September Fifth

The Williston public schools will open Tuesday September 5 with a teachers institute on September 4 to prepare the year. Superintendent George F. Forster will lead 24 teachers including primary second third and high school staff from multiple states and towns.

Police Court News Drunkenness Fines In City Courts

Kate Silberg was arrested by Officer Chas. Pierce for drunkenness and fined with five days of city street work after two days she paid the fine. Charley Nelson arrested by Officer Fred Pierce for drunkenness received five days of highway work after serving, he paid. Chas. Henderson arrested by Officer John Nolan for dispensing liquor was fined five and costs, paid.

J M Young led a caravan of seventy horses through the area on Wednesday en route from Utah to eastern Utah. This marks his fifteenth trip delivering stock from the Mormon settlements to this region.
