Washington April 17. The French ambassador M. Cambon told Secretary Hay that Duke d Arcos has been chosen as Spanish minister at Washington. Spain also informed that Belly Storer would be the United States minister at Madrid. Arrival time for Duke d Arcos is not yet fixed.
A Austin Minnesota man named Bennett fell from a westbound freight near Springbrook last Friday night. He suffered fatal injuries after the wheels passed over both legs and he died shortly after medical aid arrived. The coroner ruled the accident aboard the car. he had a brother in Austin. Bennett was taken to the court house where Dr. Van Dyke amputated one leg before his death. He was buried in Williston cemetery.
Arbor Day was designated by Governor F B Fancher for Friday May 3. He urged trustees, students, teachers, and the public to devote the day to planting trees shrubs and flowers. J F Woodley advertises wallpaper at 6 cents per roll. Eyres within reach. Schilling's Best products sold by Hedderich Bros. & Company with money back if unsatisfied.
In a special session April 18 1899 the Williston Board of Education accepted J W Rose Grand Forks plan and bid for a new town school building. The proposal includes a set of plans and contracts for 225 with travel allowances up to 425 and 10 per day for expenses. Trustees Field and Bergh were set to visit the site with Rose.
A notice announces a town caucus at the Williston courthouse on Monday evening April 24 at 7 o clock for nominating a full slate of town officers. It invites all persons regardless of past politics to participate. Also announces candidate W H Saitity for Town Marshal seeking votes on May 1.
An aunt with a cold is urged to visit Bruegger Mercantile to receive a free bottle of Boschee’s German Syrup. Each person may claim one bottle, not given to children without parental orders. The ad touts the remedy as widely endorsed by physicians and widely sold, with a 73 cent bottle claimed to cure or prove its value.
