Commercial Club Discusses Roads and Auto Licenses

Williston Commercial Club met last Monday to discuss river road and north townsite road improvements near the Experimental Farm. They appointed a committee to study Good Roads efforts and urged cooperation with county officials on auto licensing and the disputed 1908 road tax. Natural Gas Possibility Raised by West Virginia Resident

Women vote to shut 1100 saloons in Illinois township elections

In Illinois on April 9 women voting for the first time helped close about 1100 saloons across sixteen counties and many townships. They aided victory for the anti-saloon ticket by pushing wet versus dry results, with several larger cities remaining wet. Women elected thirty officials including township collectors and a city education board member. Mrs. Mary J. Morrison of Springfield noted among winners.

Winnipeg man found guilty of first degree murder

Joh Krafchenko is found guilty of murder in the first degree in a Plum Coulee case. The jury reached verdict at 2 10 after deliberating about two hours. The court adjourned until later for the possible death sentence as legal counsel conferred with the prisoner.

Perea and Ne Vy Apr rebated the immigration bill critique as North Dakota Agricultural College Leamy took part in a tight three way contest last night winning two of three. The Los Angeles victory saw Walter Baumgartel and Ren Wily defeat USC rivals. Baumgartel, once Crookston, belonged to Minnesota high school champs two years ago. Amidon Heidner and Bollerud lost their North Dakota debate with South Dakota teams. A Brookings squad included Dixon Knudson Arnold. Stice Garage Fire Destroys Building. Rebuild Planned

The Stice garage burned after 2 pm, gutting the frame front and part brick add on. Firefighters saved ground floor cars and supplies. several autos, including a Maxwell and a Fuller, were lost. Estimated cost over six thousand dollars with only two thousand insurance. The brick workshop survived. owner plans a modern brick rebuild to handle business.

In Concord New Hampshire April 1 the U S district court under Judge Edgar Aldrich granted Harry K Thaws petition for a writ of habeas corpus but did not discharge him yet awaiting Supreme Court action on appeal The court also left Shaw bail petition undetermined sending that issue to the Supreme Court The ruling preserves Thaws guardianship conditional status for now and sends the habeas issue to the nations highest court for review
