About forty surviving Civil War veterans registered for the Warren County Battalion gathering held Saturday. President pro tem Elisha Little helped recount the 1895 formation and history of the unit, while Judge Jos M Rabb gave a moving address after a day of business, meals, and music.

David Mulkins, a respected Warren County resident born in Vermilion County Indiana in 1843, died at 2:30 am on his 74th birthday after a period of ill health. He served in the Civil War with Company E 86th Indiana and later farmed, active in G A R and Warren County Battalion events. He is survived by son Thomas and three daughters Blanche Cline and Mrs James Fetterling of Attica and Mrs Joseph Cline. Funeral services were held at his home with the G A R Post in charge.

Squirrel Attacks Mrs Ohmer Stewart in Forenoon Incident
A pet squirrel leaped onto Mrs Ohmer Stewart while she hung washing and bit and scratched her arms. Will Denton helped, the creature then attacked him, and , after a shotgun shot, the squirrel was killed. The animal came from Roy Fox and was tested in Indianapolis for rabies with no signs found. Stewart's arm swelling subsided as it healed.

Barn Struck by Lightning Near Independence
