A Friday night entry into Ed Held's dry goods and B J Winger's drug store yielded about 12.25 dollars in cash plus a back window entry key. Sheriff fingerprints taken as investigators pursue the unidentified burglar who fled the scene.
Williamsport defeated Pence 10 to 9 in a seven inning final to win the tournament. Attica and Williamsport opened 11 to 3 with Williamsport then beating Pence 10 to 9 in the final after a closely fought game. Williamsport had two errors in the series.
A birthday party was hosted at Sir and Mrs Daniel Bushs home on August 20 to celebrate Marguerite Bushs eighteenth birthday. Guests enjoyed games and refreshments including ice cream cake and lemonade with many local residents attending.
Oveta Pearl Jenkins daughter of Mr and Mrs Russell Jenkins and Russell Shonkwiler son of Mr and Mrs George Shonkwiler were married by Rev R L Fletcher yesterday afternoon. Both couples hail from Attica.
A. L. Gabler and family of Lafayette spent Sunday with Mrs. Harry Evans, sharing time together and enjoying the day in her home.
The Republican Party announces a rally next Thursday chaired by Cowgill. Senator Oliver C. Holmes is billed as the speaker and a sizable attendance is expected with music and other events.
Miss Rachel Zenor, now employed in the clerical department of the Pullman company in Chicago, was the weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Billings. Miss Lottie Siddens of Lafayette spent Sunday and Monday with home folks.
The Medina Township Horse Shoe Tournament at Green Hill last Saturday crowned Walter Myers and Oliver Biddle in doubles after they defeated Eugene Shoaf and Joe Franklin. Myers also won the singles against Amos Shoaf. Myers and Shoaf will represent the township at the Warren County Stock Show county tournament.
Mr and Mrs C M Prather and children Louise and Merle from Rossville Illinois and Miss Ann Courbn from Danville were Sunday visitors of Mrs Helena Heid. Prather is Heids daughter.
Williamsport schools opened Monday to the largest enrollment in the history of the district. All departments are crowded and some classes are sent home pending new accommodations. Efforts are under way to secure additional quarters to house overflow while more space is arranged. Amist Helen Nevin did not sign a contract to teach English and Latin as previously announced. Miss Hazel McCombs of Dayton Indiana now heads that department.
Dorothy Bush of St. Paul Indiana wed Wray Metsker of Indianapolis last Saturday in Crawfordsville. She edits the St. Paul Record and is noted for journalistic ability. he is a World War I veteran and ex-soldier who survived a close capture and later injury, now restored to health.
Esther Mann of Independence and Earl Barnhart of Lafayette wed in a quiet Wednesday morning ceremony performed by Rev. Florian Briede. Attendants were Mildred Hughes and Harry Brown with a small gathering and wedding dinner at the bride’s maid’s home. They plan a motor trip in Indiana and will be at home in Lafayette after September 15.
A. G. Lupton argues Indiana drivers risk deaths from ego at railroad crossings. He cites a Bourbon News Mirror columnist calling drivers Ivory toters and recounts a fatal train auto collision. He urges safe driving to spare ambulances and undertakers.
Washington reports on the world wheat situation pointing to increased seedings for the current year as surplus crops of this and next year may require larger acreage. Europe must import 582 million bushels this year, 27 million more than last year, with a European crop 156.8 million bushels below last year's peak. Strong European demand is expected after harvest, with bread remaining essential to Western Europe’s dense populations.
Carl Statzell leaves for Laurel Mississippi after being summoned by the death of his mother Mrs I N Statzell. His family plans a longer stay. Mr and Mrs Clifford Kesling return to Wooster Ohio after visiting the Kesling parents Mr and Mrs Harley Kesling.
The Williamsport Civic Club met at the Royal Cafe to discuss a fundraising ball game between the east and west sides to fund a Christmas treat for local children. A committee including Van Hamilton Manford McCoskey and Phil Pleasant will organize.
