Monday features the New York City Marine Band and Hale’s lecture on The Fiddle and the Bow.

H W Wilhite proprietor of a Tab hotel was relieved of $10.05 by a suave thief in Danville on Monday. The elderly man aiming to call his home, followed a young man to the Y M C A area and into the long distance office. The suspect snatched the purse and fled toward the post office alley before vanishing. police have a description and may arraign him soon.

A Lake Erie and Western freight train derailed last Monday morning at Ambia. Fireman Otis Rice was killed, engineer Claude Perry was seriously injured, and fireman Frank Cooper was scalded as the engine and fifty cars left the track tearing up rails for four hundred feet.

William R. Corbin died at his southeast city home yesterday forenoon about 10 20 from old age. Born near Newman Illinois in 1850 he had lived here many years. He leaves a widow and three children Fred Mrs Will Demmery and Mrs Reid Adair. Funeral at 2 today from the home with interment in Highland cemetery.

Thieves Strike Abandoned Mill for Brass Bearings
Thieves entered the old flouring mill in the city and took most of the brass and copper bearings found there. Brass and copper prices have surged to eighteen to twenty cents a pound due to wartime shell production. The mill’s inactivity left valuables unprotected, and the theft likely occurred in broad daylight with hopes for quick capture of the culprits.

Leonard Harris four months old son of Mr and Mrs Benjamin Harris died last Friday evening after an illness since birth. Rev E L Butler conducted a brief funeral at the family residence Saturday forenoon, with burial at Beulah Cemetery.
Prominent Fountain County Farmer Faces Grand Larceny Charge
Frank Nave once a major landowner and stock raiser from Fountain county was arrested in Attica and taken to Carroll county to answer grand larceny. Indicted by Carroll county grand jury he pleaded not guilty and posted 3000 dollar bond. The case stems from a Delphi cattle deal where Nave allegedly sold 82 head of two year old steers after giving Bowen a note, misrepresented finances, and obtained goods on false pretenses. Nave owned 1760 acres near Attica and 1500 more in Jasper county, and was Fountain county’s largest taxpayer.
