An automobile driven by J W Duncan east of Attica crashed into the north window of Joel D Sutton's hardware store after hitting a street post near J B Dennis' shop. Glass broke and the window was boarded up while Duncan arranged repairs and compensation.
Hattie Leota Crumpton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Crumpton, died at 3 15 pm Tuesday from tuberculosis aged 27 years 5 months 13 days. She lived in Williamsport most of her life, worked at the printer's trade, later helped with the Feature theatre with her father, and belonged to the G A R Circle and Rebekah Lodge. Funeral services were held at 2 pm yesterday at the family home with Rev P T Martin officiating and burial in Highland cemetery.
Lee Morrison of Veed ersburg, age 59, is jailed in Covington on 31000 bond facing a criminal assault accusation involving Bessie Deevers, 13. Morrison pleaded not guilty before Judge Schoonover in Fountain circuit court. his bond was set at 1000. Morrison denies guilt and plans to prove innocence at trial. The Deevers girl was taken to juvenile court and ordered committed to the state board of charities. the mother, who shared the home, is cited in the case.
Republican hopeful Frank Hildenbrand toured the county seat Tuesday, meeting residents and endorsing his campaign for Warren County treasurer. He spoke about fiscal oversight and transparency, highlighting local needs and voter turnout efforts.
Martin Anne twelve year old son of Mr and Mrs Henry Anne narrowly escaped serious injury Friday evening when run over by an automobile driven by Ed Holston at the twin bridges. He was riding on a log wagon and jumped off as the wagon turned while Holston did not see him. The car passed over him with only bruises and he was taken home then to Dr Porters office. The accident was accidental and the speed was slow.
Elwood Farmer and Florence Odle, workers at the Farmer home, contracted smallpox on Monday. The Farmers are under strict quarantine with no danger of spread.
The Howarth case ended with a verdict for the plaintiff for 2000 dollars in damages from the Oxford railroad accident last April. The trial began Friday morning and the jury reached the decision early Saturday after lengthy deliberations. The Lake Erie and Western railroad company accepted the verdict, which was about 1000 dollars less than the amount sought.
Arrangements are under way for a bargain day in Williamsport on Saturday April 5. Stores will offer many bargains along with a free band concert and moving picture show. The Feature theatre opens 2 to 4 PM and admission is free.
The board picks a site offering a full view of the building from the main part of town and Monroe street. Plans and specifications move quickly with a target occupancy in November if no delays occur. The Pioneer commends the board for site choice and progress.
A new fire signal system links the power station to the central office using electric buttons for three city wards. The enunciator box at the plant shows the ward number, and a gong rings as the central office triggers the alarm. The engineer then blows the whistle, reducing wire damage and delays from broken lines.
Ira Cadwallader claimed top honors at a West Lebanon shoot by hitting 140 of 150 pigeons for a .933 percentage, a regional record. Other shooters included Dr. Er E Johnson 132 of 150, Stewart 131 of 150, Talbert 130 of 150, Dr. Ford 118 of 150, Fred Frame 67 of 100, and Paul Biser 90 of 100. others noted were Atchinson and Dr. Lawrence Finney with 116 of 150 and 77 of 100 respectively.
The home of Charles M. McCabe in Crawfordsville burned last Friday around noon, causing losses over $10,000. Fire officials suspect a defective chimney as the origin, with rapid spread before help arrived. McCabe is brother to prominent attorney Edwin F. McCabe.
Miss Esther Cronkhite of Marshfield and Jessie Shoemaker of State Line wed Saturday afternoon at Justice Henry Hall's matrimonial parlors in Danville Illinois. The groom is 22 and the bride 20. the justice married the groom's parents 27 years ago.
Mr and Mrs Lewis Rattles of near Pine Village conducted business and trading in the city on Tuesday in a brief social and commercial visit.
A motion for a new trial for Big John Murphy, condemned for murder, was argued before Judge Brewer. Efforts by Danville’s black community to fund a new trial or appeal to the Supreme Court expand to Champaign Urbana and possibly statewide fundraising. No immediate move for Armstrong. many local Black residents believe Murphy and Armstrong are innocent and unjustly tried due to color.
Governor Ralston appoints Thomas Taggart to fill the vacancy caused by Benjamin F. Shively’s death. A longtime Indiana political figure, Taggart is a leading Democrat and Indiana party organizer, former Marion county auditor and three term mayor of Indianapolis.

Stewart sues Charles Kirkpatrick Fred McAdams Joy B Jamison Maurice Jamison Forest Grover Morehead Glenn A Sib bitt John Rynearson and Katherine Regent in Lafayette circuit court seeking 2000 for damage to the Main street bridge after the McAdams auto knocked about 25 feet of balustrade into the Wabash river early Sunday morning March 5.
After Frank Sheets died, six of his children were taken from their destitute mother to the Julia E Work Training School in Plymouth Indiana by Trustee Rufus Haupt and Prosecutor Carl Mehaffey. Five youths Nellie Blanche Marcella Elizabeth and Cecil aged 16 and under were moved. the infant remained with the mother. The county farm had cared for them since the death, but the Training School offers better preparation for life with specialized instructors.
Willie Miller son of Mrs Harriet Miller State Line sustained a broken left arm above the elbow Tuesday morning while rope jumping with friends. Foot caught in rope he was thrown hard to the ground. Dr Lakin dressed the injury. About a year ago he also broke the other arm in a horse mishap.
Frank Hildenbrand who won the Republican nomination for County Treasurer in the recent primary gave a large oyster supper at Green Hill last Saturday night to about 250 friends and supporters. William Cowgill and Carl Mehaffey attended and reported a splendid time.
The Tenth district prohibitionists met at Earl Park to select delegates for the state convention in Indianapolis June 6 and 7. I S Wade of Lafayette was nominated for Congress after earlier consideration of other names, with E S Thornton of Jasper county chosen as joint representative for Jasper and Benton counties. Wade had previously run for secretary of state in 1914 and secured a strong showing.
Miss Opal Boyer daughter of J G Boyer a Pine Village barber who has lived in Lafayette for years eloped with schoolmate Ernest Driscoll last week to Danville where they were married. They returned to Lafayette and planned to keep the marriage secret but Lafayette papers published the news. Both are prominent. Opal is noted as a talented composer with many Pine Village friends seeking a happy future.
Warren Scott, Monday morning, forgot to secure the brake on his newly acquired Ford. The car rolled, pinning him against the garage wall and fracturing his right collar bone while causing bruises and embarrassment.
Williamsport schools closed Wednesday due to a measles outbreak affecting the city and community. If the illness does not worsen, classes are to resume next Monday.
Marcellus Groscross of a Michigan town dined with Wm. Briggs and family on Tuesday. He had visited his son in law Ira Evans at West Lebanon and planned to take the train home after a winter in Tampico Florida.
