Democratic voters backed surveyor and treasurer contests while Republicans drew a large share of the vote in the November election. The report notes a strong turnout and a clear preference pattern among party lines.
The ticket lists Joseph Horn as Treasurer Joseph Simmerman as Recorder Sandy Shateil as Sheriff Clarence McDonald as Coroner Dr. E. E. Johnson as Surveyor James H. Zane as Coroner and two commissioners R. A. Butler for the 1st District and a second for the 2nd District.
The slate lists Frank Hildenbrand for Treasurer Lloyd McFerren for Sheriff Rupert Gregory for Recorder Olimer Stewart for Surveyor J H Crawford for Coroner Peter M Rodgers for Commissioner Districts 1 and 2. The lines present a ballot slate without dates or locations.
In Warren County Republicans held a quiet primary except for the Treasurer contest among Seniour Rhode Frank Hildenbrand and Clair Haun with Hildenbrand ultimately leading before final counts. The Democratic vote was light though they appeared to put on a fair showing. A separate item reports John Botliner of near New Albany severely injured when he fell from a moving Wabash freight train near Ambia and later dying from his injuries.
The Parent Teachers Club program will be held at the school building on Friday afternoon March 17 1916. It lists selections from the School Orchestra and Seventh Grade, with papers and music by Miss Woody and the orchestra.
Jesse Tyler, a well known resident near Pine Village, died early this week after a prolonged illness. The body was taken to Attica Monday for burial. Warren T. Williamsport high school fell 73 to 28 to Otterbein last Friday night. J Shuey B Shuey Warrick Julian played solid defense as Otterbein dominated most of the game. Geneve Van Reed surprised by a party hosted by her school friends at her grandparents home. Clint Butler and Lee report strong sale season activity since mid January. John W. Small acquires Hillsboro Blue Pencil renaming it Times and will edit both papers from Waynetown. Superintendent Harry Evans conducted business in State Line Wednesday.
The William sport Library Board has opened the public library after delays. About 600 volumes are accessible including 500 local works and 93 from the state library with magazines and periodicals. Open hours are 2 to 5 Tuesday Thursday Saturday afternoon and 6 to 9 Saturday evening.
Nola Alice Ratcliff daughter of Mr and Mrs John E Ratcliff of Independence died at home Friday evening from bowel trouble. Funeral services were held Sunday with interment near Veedersburg. Miss Hazel Painter returned to Valparaiso to resume studies after a short visit in the city. H D Billings visited Attica Wednesday.
The present Democratic County Chairman M. A. McDonald resumes his bid for the district chairmanship as precinct 2on committee men meet at the court house to choose a county chair. A county chair will be named next Tuesday by district chairmen for the Tenth Congressional District. McDonald is described as highly qualified for the position and may simultaneously serve as district chair if elected.
Sylvester Garrett, tied to the Attica hold-up of Wabash agent Dick Parkman, is jailed in Covington on a 5900 bond after Cincinnati police captured him on tips from Harvey Troxell. Garrett, a Car Coupler employee, had a revolver in his Attica room and is linked to the attempted hold-up of Clint Idle. Troxell and another suspect were detained as part of the investigation into local burglaries.
The first examination for pupils completing the common schools will be held Saturday March 18 1916 at Medina Green Hill Pine Rainsville Prairie Center Jordan Center Liberty Judyville Kramer Warren Independence Steuben Marshfield Kent and State Line State Line Mound Foster Washington Broadie Adams and Pike townships will not have an examination until April. Local theatre firm starts fifteen installment serial The Strange Case of Mary Page at the Feature theatre next Thursday night March 16. Edna Mayo and Henry B. Walthal star in the lead roles, with Walthal also known for The Birth of a Nation.
