Mary Jane Rhode born September 20 1834 in Warren County Indiana married Jacob M Rhode January 3 1858. They had three children Fannie Frances and Charles with grandchildren and a great grandchild. Jacob died February last and they lived in Warren and Iroquois counties. She was devoted to home family and friends.

Death of Attica’s Charles J. Haller noted local figure
Charles J. Haller a longtime Attica resident and founder of Haller the Hatter died at his home after years of illness. Born November 22 1844 he lived in Attica all his life and never married. Survived by brothers Dan Haller and Edward A Haller and three sisters Mrs Anna Crog eon Miss Octavia L Haller and Miss Cordelia Haller. Funeral services were held from the home with Rev J G Campbell officiating and lodge members in attendance.

Collapse at Attica Gravel Plant Buries Only Part of Crew
The Attica Gravel Company plant storage bin and elevator collapsed Monday afternoon under a heavy load of gravel. The failure occurred while workers were away at the engine house getting a drink, narrowly missing six men who would have been buried fifty feet under gravel.

Pine Village Fires Destroy Historic Hotel and Hardware Building
A large blaze in Pine Village last Monday morning razed the historic hotel and a one story hardware building, destroying autos stored there. Firefighters faced exploding gasoline tanks, and assistance came from Attica and Otterbein as residents fled.

Death of Lieut. Charles K. Alausy in Aviation Accident
Lieut. Charles K. Alausy, among lek s, was killed at 10 a m when his aircraft over Los Angeles veered and fell six hundred feet. The family received only notice of death and shipment to Fowler at government expense. Maury enlisted in aviation, trained at Cornell, then served as instructor at Rockwell Field San Diego after transfers through Dallas and Waco. It is unclear if a student accompanied him during the accident.

The country home of L. G. Marshall northeast of here burned last Friday around seven. The house and furnishings were destroyed and a large quantity of meat and lard perished. Insurance covered 1000 on the house and 600 on the furniture. total loss about 2500. No one was at home when the fire started.
