The Williamsport chautauqua opens July 14 and runs five days with a strong lineup led by the New York Marine Band under Vincent Lo Zito. Lectures by Dr E L Williams and Dr J H Sowerby. Gilbert Atlee Eldredge and Albert Edward Wiggam featured. Meistersingers Male Quartette opens. season tickets at $1.50.
The Chautauqua move ment began in major eastern cities and spent three years at Palisades Park New York City. The Williamsport program promises variety with classical and popular pieces. W Powell Hale will lecture on The Fiddle and the Bow and Madame Wagner Shank leads Handel Choir in sacred music and sketches. J Franklin Caveny, cartoonist, shows vivid crayon sketches. Afternoon sessions start 2 30 and evening at 7 30, with music or preludes each session. Central organizers emphasize planning and advertising with banners on autos and strong local support.
