Farmers Meet to Discuss Hog Embargo and Road Law

Death of Lieut. Col. W. E. Purviance
Lieut. Col. W E Purviance died by his own hand at his Los Angeles home on Christmas Day. Born April 3 1865 in West Lebanon Indiana he graduated Jefferson Medical College 1889 and served in the U S Army from 1895 rising to lieutenant colonel before retiring in 1912. He left a wife and three sons and was buried in San Francisco National Cemetery with a military funeral.

Dr C W Beckett who left a good Attica practice and volunteered early for overseas service has been promoted several times with varied wartime experience. He writes vivid letters home about the boys’ experiences. He grew up in Foster Mound township and is now a major. Two westbound trains carried sick and wounded from France through town last weekend with soldiers in good spirits bound for Jefferson Barracks. Don Hickman of Warren township won the first prize in the five acre corn plot at the Fountain county show in Hillsboro last Friday and Saturday.

Doctor H W Dale Returns to Resume Medical Practice
Dr H W Dale, called to army service and stationed at Camp Polk Raleigh N C, has returned to West Lebanon to resume medicine and surgery. He served as Captain in the Tank Corps hospital during the influenza outbreak aiding about 3000 soldiers with influenza pneumonia and other complications.
