Indiana and Illinois known saxophone soloist Leslie Spence son of former Covington Republican editor John Spence died in a Chicago hospital last Friday from pneumonia. He belonged to the Selies’ Home band at Danville and previously played with Forepaugh show band among other leading groups. Body shipped to Covington for Sunday funeral services.

Wrist Break In Old Town Fall Keeps Mrs Shamp From Shopping
Mrs Samuel Shamp of Old Town suffered a broken bone in her right wrist after a fall last Friday evening. She was carrying their infant during the incident but the child was unharmed. A physician attended to the injury and Mrs Shamp is on the road to recovery, with use of the arm returning after several weeks.

Reverend Clifton Convicted in Ford Theft Trial
Rev. B. F. Clifton, former Kingman and Salem Methodist minister, was found guilty by a Montgomery county jury after an hour of deliberation for stealing a Ford. He received a sentence of 1 to 14 years in the Jeffersonville Reformatory, with his fiancée Ossie Hesler at his side as tears flowed in the courtroom. The defense intends to appeal, while Hesler had contended he was insane if the theft occurred.
