Fire destroys Cronkhite home west of West Lebanon
A large frame house on the Starry farm west of West Lebanon belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cronkhite burned Tuesday morning along with most of the household goods. The blaze started from a spark in the kitchen flue. Mrs. Cronkhite, bedridden, was taken to her grandmother Mrs. Hannah Starry for care and is slowly improving. Insurance partially covers the loss and the Cronkhites plan immediate rebuilding.

Woman Narrowly Escapes Death in Kitchen Fire
Mrs. Catherine Stickling of Boswell area narrowly escaped severe injury when a kerosene stove ignition caused an explosion and flames. She jumped into a tub of water in the bathroom after her clothes ignited, a move credited with saving her life. She was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital at Lafayette for treatment.
