Thomas Clifton editor and publisher of the Covington Republican sustained a severe hand injury last Saturday evening when his left hand was crushed between a bed and the plates of a job press. He was rushed to a Danville hospital where doctors amputated all but the thumb. He is reported to be recovering well.

Fire damages Attica frame building near Martin's
A damaging blaze swept through a two room frame building behind Martin's grocery in Attica at 4 30 Monday morning. The fire gutted Clint Idle's card room and the Star restaurant with origin suspected in the upstairs chimney. Three men slept upstairs with two escaping by window. Baker escaped to breakfast before the blaze spread. Paul Weber and George Feuerstein owned the west and east rooms respectively. Idle carried no insurance while others were insured.
