Dodge Brothers introduce a refreshed 1924 line featuring longer wheelbase and lower body, all steel construction, semi elliptic rear springs, and enhanced interiors and instrumentation. Dealers report strong approval as the company maintains price parity with last year amid improved riding comfort and new cooling and safety features.
Williamsport, West Lebanon, Newtown, and Attica utilities face recommended rate increases following a Public Utilities Commission hearing in Attica. Examiner Harry Boggs and expert Benjamin Perk proposed higher per kilowatt pricing to cover losses, with Williamsport’s rate rising from 1.98 to 2.59 per 100 kw and monthly bills increasing accordingly.
Byron Graham 11, son of Mr and Mrs Floyd Graham of Lincoln street, is confined to bed after colliding with a family Ford while riding his new bicycle Saturday morning. He suffered a deep cut below the right knee, requiring fifteen stitches, and his bicycle wheel was badly damaged. The driver, Mr Graham, was moving slowly. the accident occurred near Henry Christopher's home. Byron will be off his feet for a couple of weeks.
The National Car Coupler band of Attica toured streets on Tuesday to publicize the Attica chautauqua set to begin August 17 and run for ten days. Jack Honan led a group of booster figures in costume, aiming to showcase a lively, elaborate program.
Taps sounded for Michael Mart who lived in Williamsport for 25 to 30 years and died Monday at the Lafayette Soldiers Home after illness. A Civil War private in Co. K 2nd New Jersey Cavalry, he endured Andersonville imprisonment and hardships before later settling in Indiana and frequenting New Jersey friends. He never married and had only a dog and a horse for companions. Funeral was held at the Home Chapel Wednesday afternoon.
Sunday morning Mr and Mrs Marion Tribbett and daughters Jewell and Anna May and C W Hudler left north of Rainsville for Williamsport. A large car passed and returned striking the Tribbett Ford touring car, bending the radius rod and sending it into a ditch. The car overturned, top and windshield damaged, left wheel smashed. The occupants escaped with slight bruises while the behind car sped away.
Charles E Crane a lifelong resident of Warren township near Winthrop died Tuesday forenoon after long illness. He was 87 years old and survived by a widow and several children. The funeral will be held this forenoon at 10 oclock from the home.
The pest attacks over 200 species of plants including most cultivated fruit trees corn beans and many shade and ornamental trees. The beetle threatens fruit crops and garden landscapes across regions, prompting calls for control measures.
D. D. MacGillivray township trustee announces Pine Village school staff for the coming year. Lynden B. Jenkins will be superintendent, Charles Ruby principal, with agriculture and athletics. Albert Bowman teaches languages, Myrtle Haugen music and arts, Florence Exley home economics, Mary Green seventh and eighth grades, Mattie Marshall fifth and sixth grades, Alma Klover first and second grades. A community meeting with a program and refreshments opens the year.
Mrs Eliza Stewart died at her home in Pine Village Saturday evening. Born in Butler county Ohio August 23 1846 she was 76 years 11 months and 18 days old. She is survived by sons Zachariah and Joseph Stewart of Spokane Wash William Stewart of Troy Ohio and daughters Mrs Harrison McKinzie near Winthrop and Mrs S S Jacobs Pine Village. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 30 pm at the Pine Village Christian church with Rev Hole of Crawfordsville officiating.
Mrs. Frank Nern enjoyed a birthday anniversary at her Locust Grove home with ice cream and pie. Guests included Robert Turner and wife Geo Eisel and daughter Arthur Graves and wife Mrs Charley Felix and children Mrs Nern's father Mr Stephens Willie High and wife and children Rev Hackley and son Charley Nern and wife and son Earl and Mrs Nern's sister Hazel Frank Evans and son Frank Nern and family Bennie Stephens and family Charley Thompson and wife and Mr Thompson's niece husband and child Mr Hinkle Mrs Elsie Ferling and children.
Sunday a birthday dinner at his home surprised Duffy Cole, hosted by Mr and Mrs William Cole and Mrs Duffy Cole. Out of town guests included families from Chicago Boswell New Richmond Lafay ette West Lebanon Attica and Attica. Duffy was 28.
Alfred Handley died at his home three miles southwest of here on Tuesday morning. He had lived in Warren county most of his life and was known to many in the county. He was 58 years old. Funeral services will be held at the family residence this afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Israel Hatton officiating.
A missing Oklahoma resident prompted a daytime search after a stranger visited her home and authorities released a description and last known location. Family and neighbors aided in the inquiry, with officials urging anyone with information to contact local police.
