Warren County Boy Escapes as Campana Sinks
Wray Metsker, a Warren County youth recently promoted to captain, survived the torpedoing of the steamer Campana by a German submarine August 6, 14 miles west of Tre de Re. Forty seven survivors reached land. Metsker was the only gun crew member to escape and was later reported reaching France. Relatives were anxious until a Washington message confirmed his safety.
