Mrs. Ethel Hodge Hegg attempted to drink carbolic acid at the Goodman store stairway. Her husband knocked the bottle away as it neared her lips, she cried out in pain, was aided by antidotes, and taken home. Authorities noted long standing illness and stress as factors.
Thomas G. Snyder aged 21 of Kingman was refused a marriage license to wed Miss Mary E. Pritchard of Perrysville Indiana because she was underage at 17. The couple were told to return Monday when the girl would have turned eighteen.
Vigo county prosecuting attorney Richard Werneke slipped at the Shades of Death during a Sunday excursion. He rolled about 75 feet down a near vertical Lovers Leap cliff, was not seriously hurt, but frightened several companions including his wife until reaching the bottom and calling to say he was fine.
Immense crowd gathered for a reunion of former Green Hill Academy students and alumni at the campus. About thirty alumni attended with J. M. Albright of Attica acting as chairman. Otterbein orchestra provided music and impromptu talks followed by a fine dinner. the event was enjoyed by all.
The State Tax Board approved the Warren County Board of Review’s work with no changes to the assessment returns. Local officials hailed the decision as favorable for taxpayers and expected no further revisions or disputes.
Entertainer Arthur Irvin will perform magic readings and impressions on Saturday evening August 14 in the basement of the new Church of Christ at Pence Indiana. Proceeds benefit the Loyal Sons Sunday School Class and the church. Admission 10 and 25 cents. Public invited.
H Bodle of the sanitary grocery urges advertising as essential to business. The Old Settlers picnic will be held at Yeddo on August 19 with special speakers already secured.
The Williamsport Concert Band drew a large Sunday crowd at The Arch summer resort. From ten in the morning until five in the afternoon the band entertained visitors with vocal solos by D Karl Butt and W Merle Odle and a double quartet. The manager of the Arch requested a second performance next Sunday. The band presents a strong program with difficult selections. Mr Martin of Portland Arch invites Williamsport residents to join for another pleasant day at Indiana's pleasure place.
The Post Office Department issues a rule requiring rural route carriers to use automobiles year round with a machine permit required for machine use. They must designate three months January February and March for horse and buggy use unless roads permit otherwise. Farmers may affect prompt delivery and snow emergencies may force machine use in harsh weather. Kingman Star.
