The Glad Workers Society of Independence Christian church held a picnic at Ravine park. Thirty one sat down to two tables with wood goods and plenty to eat. A hearty afternoon entertainment followed. two pew members were taken ill and a fine collection was reported. The society will meet with Miss Alice Smith August 16 and with Mrs Ada Stetler August 36. J C Stephens and wife and B J Winger and wife of this city and W G Ross and family of Attica were at Ravine park Sunday.
The Community Chautauqua season runs September 2 to 6 with notable speakers. Dr Lucian E Folansbee will discuss Genius and Judgment, Edward Elliott will present The Lion and the Mouse, and Stanley Kebs will address human nature. Denton Crowl, Col Watterson and Governor Aldridge also appear in a program blending lectures and music.
The reminder about a piano recital event features M. Josef Loseff the Russian cellist scheduled to appear. A separate report describes a church youth hike from the Presbyterian church to Durborow woods on Shira street with camp fire games led by Miss Lelia Smith and linked to a Battle Ground Institute visit for Endeavor attendance.

Coroner Francis Sraith reports a four month old babe died from suffocation after an older child rolled over it during sleep. The mother Mrs. Siegimund and the father Will Siegimund, long-time residents, live apart with other siblings present. Funeral arrangements set by M Beard undertaking parlors.
Thompson Lewsader and Mary A Lewsad ic Covington were married Monday by Justice edersol. The couple plans to reside near the county capitol with the groom described as a farmer and the bride’s detailed residence noted.

A Home Coming event in Carbondale at Cookesdie next Sunday features Cavieu a orchestra of ten pieces the Wabash quartet and military music. Vocal solos and addresses by Rev. E. Gerand Evangelist D. L. Sellars are planned. Miss Maybeth McCollough visited from Lafayette stopping in Carbondale before continuing to Columbus Indiana to stay with relatives.
