Robbers entered the Tab store and post office on Monday night taking cigars, socks, gloves, neckties, and about $50 in stamps totaling $150. The same gang suspected as in a prior bank theft likely staged the crime, parked two miles away, and fled with the loot. Local residents fear retaliation as a careful watch for the culprits continues.
Charles Lindburg born in Sweden on December 18 1836 died at his northeast Attica home August 5 after nine weeks illness. He emigrated to America at 17, settled near West Point then Attica in 1860. Survived by wife Joanna and children Amiel Albert Emma Farthing, Oscar deceased. Services held at home and Swedish church with interment in Riverside cemetery.
Architects have plans for a new furnace in the city school building. Steam will come from exhaust at the city light and water plant via a pipe to the school across Fall Creek. It promises reduced janitor work and a cut in the coal bill, with heat furnished at no extra town cost.

Promulgated yesterday, a deal unites Whamsports two tailor shops and dry cleaning into one store with Frank O. Kelly as owner. Kelly will move his gent's furnishings and tailoring into the Swank room, leaving one dry cleaning establishment in town. He plans to expand stock and may add ready-made clothing.
Lawrence Etnire enters army service, naming B. Hudler as deputy postmaster with full charge starting Monday. Hudler will oversee the office while editor remains with the Pioneer, continuing duties at the newspaper alongside post office work.
Residents owning government bonds must report to Wm. J. Woods at his home with their 1917 income. The information is government required and confidential. someone will be available at all times to assist. Township Chairman Woods urges prompt action.
Dr John Trott, who suffered a stroke two weeks ago, shows very little if any sign of improvement. Cecil Smith of Boswell visited his uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs B O Hudler. Frank and Belva Gern of Brazil returned home after visiting Mr and Mrs Ralph Zufall.
Community Club arranges outdoor band concerts in this city starting Saturday night. The group features local talent under Marshall Coffing, Williamsport’s cornet virtuoso, and will perform each Saturday night in August and September. Public invited.

Funeral Aug 4 at Christian church in Peace. Burial Pence cemetery. Anna Mary Kieffer born Dec 28 1857 in Berks County moved to Warrencou eleht died July 31 1918 at St Elizabeth Lafayette. Lutheran lifelong, survived by siblings and a niece. Burial Highland cemetery. Card of thanks from siblings for support and floral tributes.
Roy Steinspring left Monday for Syracuse New York as directed by the local draft board in response to a U S army call for limited service.
Engagement announced of Miss Mary Louise Stuckey of Chicago and Wendell H. Williams son of Rev and Mrs W R Williams of Marengo Iowa. Rev Williams formerly pastor here and family well known. Williams is a sergeant in the army.
The Third Liberty Loan registered bonds may be transferred or exchanged with coupon bonds from August 1 to August 15. The registry closes to prepare September 15 interest payments. exchanges after August 15 accrue interest from September 15. Miss Lillian Withee and Miss Lulu Statzell depart for Yankton, South Dakota to promote Dr. Marden's book.

In a letter dated July 22 1918 Congressman Madden explains efforts to fix soldier mail delays. He details a switch to army led delivery under Pershing with mail orderlies from troops and notes ship grounding and dispatch issues that slowed delivery to front lines.
The Powell family, Thomas Powell Jr and his wife plus two children, survived a Sunday crash on the Attica hill when their Overland skidded and overturned after hitting an embankment. Mrs Powell suffered a badly bruised hip, Tom Powell recovered from minor injuries, and baby cota escaped with a scratched nose. They are staying with Mrs Powell’s parents in Attica until healed.
