Surprise shower for newlyweds Lonnie and Chloe Hilly
At the Creamer home northeast of here last Saturday evening a group of young folks hosted a cheerful wedding shower for Lonnie Hilly and his wife Chloe. Attendees enjoyed Victrola music and two piano solos by Hazel Woods, plus ample ice cream and candy. Guests included Abs Rose Koehl Fred Bush and wife Ray Barwick and family Mamie Oldfield Rose Simmerman Agnes and Lucy Barwick Hazel Woods Golda Benson Audrey Willett Ruby Mertin Merle Creamer and more with Charles Woods Fred Simmerman Bryan Lawrence John Benson Robert Martin Finley Lucas Deniel MecKinzie Charles Reynolds and John Creamer. Jasper Dove suffered a broken left arm and dislocation while unloading a brick load for Warren County Lumber Co. Fire Destroys Separator on Joseph Cline Farm Near Winthrop
Fire last Thursday night destroyed a thrashing machine owned by William Grames and Jesse Daugherty and a straw stack on the Joseph Cline farm two and a half miles west of Winthrop. Losses range from 100 to 500 dollars with no insurance. Fire origin remains a mystery, not likely from the engine or a cigarette, neighbors saved wagons of wheat, Grames and Daugherty bought a new machine and resumed thrashing. The Felix family reunion followed at Prairie township with many descendants attending and a large noon dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Felix, both over 75, homesteaded here after moving from Pennsylvania in 1852 and recounts of early county life.

Oats Smut Rates Compared On North Independence Farms
Farm observers document 16 to 35 percent oats smut in untreated fields on Charles Banning’s farm north of Independence, while treated fields of Wilden Mann and David Benson Jr. show no smut. Purdue findings report yields gains of 2 to 30 bushels per acre from management, with untreated fields averaging up to 50 percent smut.

Auto Accident Near Rainsville Injures Two Boys
Clair Kirts of near Rainsville and John Shultz of Pine Village were in an auto accident last Sunday evening near John McCandlish's home east of Rainsville. Kirts suffered a dislocated shoulder while Shultz received several bruises. The car turned upside down after steering gear failed and left the road, causing heavy damage to the vehicle.

Boy’s gash from knife slips while helping thrashers
Allen McKinzie, 17, son of Mr and Mrs William McKinzie, living north of Independence on the old John May farm, cut his left leg near the knee with a slipped knife while whittling a cork for a jug. A three inch gash required dressings by Dr. Holley.
